I don't think my first attempt at this post worked so: got my duck brooder built yesterday. a little overcomplicated but I wanted to capture the effluent that messy wet ducks make rather than let it pass through the bedding and soak my shop floor. last year I made elevated floor brooder but didn't get catch and gutter system installed until this year. the gutter leaded to an oil pan(unused) for collection and use in a watering can. last year I learned that the elevated floor kept the bedding and ducks a little more dry. I also discovered that young ducks were prone to falling through the cracks, thus the addition of landscape fabric. happy spring! #grownostr #ducks #quackstr #farmstr

duck brooder built yesterday. overcomplicated a bit but as ducks tend to splash and spill so much water and have wet manure, I wanted to collect the effluent rather than let it pool in my shop and smell. I'm hoping this liquid fertilizer is worth the Xtra effort. last year proved that elevating the bedding and allowing drainage helped it last longer and kept the birds drier. #Ducks #PastureRaised #Quackstr

listening to #TSP episode 3473 fr9m @JackSpirko this morning just reminds me of all the opportunities I've chose to miss over the years. knew bitcoin was a good fit for Austrian economics when it was somewhere between $1-$225/BTC... Stayed away because of skepticism and excuses. Knew that Sepp's trip to Montana was coming and an amazing opportunity, made excuses why I couldn't afford it(to be fair I was like 16 or 17 making 10 but an hour) and instead of fundraising and begging and borrowing to make the short drive from Cheyenne, I stayed home and wasted money on being a dumb kid. not sure what action it will spur me into in the future, but today, I'm feeling #fedupwithfailure maybe I should look at Zach's website in earnest one of these days...

after seeing some pseudoscopions in a bedding pile the other day and recalling that some have looked at psuedoscorpions for mite control, it led me back to this little thread of thinking: what if we designed a beehive that included natural predators for varroa mite? perhaps a thick walled hive with a conical bottom in which we might have wood duff or coco coir to house earwigs and pseudos, a screened bottom above it where the entrance would be located, the top matching up to langstroth dimensions for supers. sort of recreating the ecosystem of a guano pile for Bat's. I'm not part of the produce less honey crowd but rather aim for less inputs for better quality honey, improving value and therefore profit margins. #justathought #bees #Beestr #varroa #honey

got a little sidework done for a client yesterday morning, connection on a soldered copper line was leaking pretty bad under the water heater, ID problem, cut out bad section, replace with sharkbite fittings and pex, quick job done. #sidework #grownostr #plumbingsucks #getshitdone

moving some compost and compost ingredients around today and looking at #macrofauna and #soillife forgive the horrid photography with my subpar phone some kind of worm and what I am guessing is either a mite scorpion or a very young wind scorpion, 10x zoom for each #grownostr #compost

I like simplicity and the utilization of the screen, I see a lot of similarities to the system I hope to develop here
