Cheesy analogy for Nostr + Pkarr + Iroh: Nostr relay is the bar. Wave to your friend and shout to get their attention. Nostr DMs are like passing notes across the bar (owner and staff can potentially see). Pkarr is when you sit down at a table with them. Iroh is the conversation at the table. Bar owner and staff can’t hear this when you’re being quiet.

Everyone on Nostr is promoting “vibe coded” slop. Yeah, that’s really enticing to an intelligent developer that wants to make high quality software.

Which is worse: Palantir putting you on a blacklist for thought crimes or using a a messenger that sounds like a sexually transmitted disease?

When “zaps” simply become “tips”, that’s when Nostr will make it. We must be willing to remove all idiocy for the sake of the greater good. Cannot be precious about cuteness that isn’t even cute.

I guess key signers are 100% mandatory now in the age of duct-taped AI app slop

“Multiple peers transitioning is key. Having local clusters develop is important” Nostr devs will read this and think the solution is fOlloW pAcKs View quoted note →

Is there any guide like “nostr signers for dummies”? All of these clients just assume that people understand what these signers are and how to use them. Reality: using signers is a nightmare to set up and simply annoying to use. How can the UX be made to feel more intuitive? View quoted note →

Do we really need an event type for every object on earth?

The people yearn for terminals. They yearn for transparent and honest “pay per usage” business models. Nostr terminals will be a thing. Assume compromised terminal, design around that. image

GNU Taler is insanely bad. It promotes user privacy over and against user ownership. Since when do GNU people make that trade-off? Do they justify it by an irrational hatred of Proof of Work crypto?

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for Nostr devs to be willing to rethink the standard “timeline” UX. Just show a list of people in order of most to least recently active (like Fraidycat), or make something similar oriented around relays (a map of places you know about and how bumpin they are with activity?). It’s hard to overstate how sick of the timeline normies are. They’re fatigued. The answer isn’t just “timeline without an algorithm” @Constant

Are there any nostr web apps that use “no backend” architecture? To me, that is a major selling point of nostr, but it seems that not many are taking advantage of it.
