I was very lucky, but the Coldcard fiasco cost me a lot, nonetheless.
I have an MK2 and a Q! Neither got drained, but half of my life's savings used to be kept on each of them. Today that is held by a different company's hardware.
When I learned of the problem I got out quickly but it's not a free thing to do... Those funds had to go somewhere. I wasn't just going to keep them in software wallets, right?
I had to go find a new HW wallet that doesn't suck, & I could buy in person... Naturally none were near me. So I spent a chunk of my day driving to where I could buy one, paying for their markup, driving home and then moving all my stash into a single piece of hardware instead of it more comfortably resting on two devices. Frankly I want even more than 2 but I refuse to have it shipped to my home address and getting a PO Box just to ship a single package or two to me doubles (or worse) the price. But I feel I have to do that soon anyway. Safety first.
So without even being a victim, I wonder how many people are spending multiple hundreds of dollars today over Coldcard's mistake? Could you imagine if we all asked for them to cover these bills? Lol.
