Something new for Røde ✨ First illustration in a series of characters wearing their wireless GO Gen-3 mic. On recent podcasts I've talked about how I've started collaborating with brands outside of Bitcoin and the open web. Brands from spaces I hadn't originally expected, like this project for Røde, combining the retro tech aesthetic with the kind of characters I love to draw. Back in 2021, this is where I had hoped to take NoGood—a space where the line between commercial and personal work dissolves. image

@Gavin Green just described why I started NoGood, where its roots lie, and why I draw what I draw. Couldn't have said it better myself 🙌 Unfortunately, I never made it to a TABConf event, even though @Tidwell invited me every year 😅 Maybe one day I'll get to visit more of the events I made work for. Had a lot of fun chatting with @Vince from @Geyser on the Bitcoin In Action livestream. We talked about The NoGood Book and running a bitcoin-only crowdfund campaign. I couldn't have created the book without Geyser, or the bitcoin community that supported me for two years as I struggled to complete it 🙏

The thought of producing an art book had simmered in the back of my mind for years. As an illustrator, I've always been drawn to artist books and self-published zines, yet I was well aware of the work required, and never mustered up the courage to start. Until I stumbled upon a beautifully designed book that ignited the spark I needed. That book was Project Japan: Metabolism Talks. It was the opposite of the large, loud, colourful books that scream for attention, of which I saw so many while hunting for inspiration. I wanted to create a book like Project Japan, and all my design decisions flowed from it. I chose matte textured stock, the kind commonly used for printing novels. The typography is Untitled Sans by Klim Type Foundry, close to Arial or Helvetica, and as the name implies, it's not an outspoken typeface. The cover is also a matte softcover, reinforcing the feel of a 'zine on steroids'. I wanted to create a humble artist book. I hope I succeeded.
