i hate saying this but bitcoin’s current self custody mechanics are probably the biggest reason of slow adoption. not because bitcoin’s architecture is fundamentally too complex for self custody but because we as devs have done a pretty lousy job improving the ux for regular users. If securing your money is that hard, people simply won’t take the risk.

say you rolled the dice 256 times, got the bits and entered them into a hardware wallet. what makes you think the firmware is actually going to respect those bits and generate the key from that exact entropy? if there’s a bug there too, it could just ignore your input and generate its own entropy instead. if you self custody, keep this in mind and don’t rely on a single key, even if you rolled your own dice.

i’ve come to the understanding that anything touching bitcoin has to stay open source, even commercial products built by third-party vendors. if it’s closed source and handles sensitive data, don’t touch it.

when a market wants to dump, it looks for a reason. if one doesn’t exist, it creates one. btc should dump in the next few days if this bear market is going to continue because now it has a spectacularly good reason to. based on thr 4 yr cycle, we’ve got about just 4 more months to go anyway. if btc doesn’t dump hard soon, imo it’s a reasonable sign the bottom’s in.

coldcard incident t+1. btc is holding up at 63k. really incredible. take note of that. this is far worse than an exchange hack.

interesting reports coming through about how the attacker consolidated all of the utxos and there are certain patterns that will probably reveal their identity. if you’re affected and you think your coldcard is now garbage, do not throw it away. in case of recovery, you’ll need your hardware to verify and claim ownership.

multi-sig, multi vendor, multi fucking dice manufacturer, whatever it takes, we’re gonna win.

the more i think about it, the worse it gets. self custody, the very essence of bitcoin took a big hit. it’s not just about coldcard, it’s also about every other hardware wallet. don’t be opportunistic and think it’s a good time to shill your hardware because if you think you’re now gonna sell more, you’re dead wrong. the winners are exchanges, ibit, all synthetic btc products and wall st in general.

if you’re planning to self custody your bitcoin, roll that fucking dice and don’t outsource your entropy.

the good news is you can build your own bunker in the middle of nowhere on 10 acres and become a super creator instead of a super consumer. ai enables both paths.

we’ve seen the baby ai, but we haven’t seen the grown adult yet. count your clocks 5 yrs and the world will be unrecognizable from today. at first i thought they were building bunkers for the virus. turns out they were building them for the coming unpredictability of ai.

we’re cooked we don’t know yet. now ai understands sarcasm. me: make the logo smaller so we can only see it with a microscope. ai: Message received — the header wordmark at 32px was indeed squinting territory. Making it properly visible.

all ai agents will recommend bitcoin and eventually buy it directly for themselves. they’re too smart to ignore it.

ai stocks drained a ton of liquidity from everything including bitcoin. sitting above $60k in a bear market under these conditions is honestly incredible for bitcoin.

hugging face got hit and had to fall back to an open weight model on their own infra because model providers' guardrails block the forensic work. then you wonder why chinese models win. we immediately need open source to advance globally so we can save ourselves from this digital slavery.

moms are getting pissed because data centers are popping up in their backyards. politicians never want to pick a fight with moms. they’ll end up pushing big tech to accelerate space-based data centers. very bullish for spacex and even for amazon and google.
