Initial thoughts on #Nostr:
1. The key based sign-up is absolutely amazing. It packs more freedom than anything I have used recently.
2. Truly decentralised. Doesnt tie with a single server. Unlike fediverse. Yes, fediverse does let you post to other networks but you have to sign up _somewhere_ and if that server goes offline, go figure.
3. I am most excited about relay-based forwarding. This not only solves the problem of censorship and bans, but also solves the message silo problems introduced in Mastodon. However, as a #relay gets more popular, it can misuse and abuse its power. I cant see this happening anytime soon since most people here on #nostr gives a damn about the relays they are using.
4. Mobile clients are somewhat usable. I am using #Amethyst and tried #Plebstr earlier. Amethyst seems to pack some additional features that Plebstr didnt have.
5. Lots of people are using it. Which is good. But whether they stay is the real question. Fediverse initially saw thousands of people using it. But most lost interest in later stages.
6. However, data is not owned by the users. This may not be a problem with most users, but thats not something I personally like to see.
7. It's also good to see there is no character limit. Twitter, by design, unleashed a huge menace on public by limiting characters. Short form writing is good in certain cases, but when someone gets addicted to it, their thoughts get a little shallow imo.
8. Lack of algorithms is refreshing. I dont want to see text from a month ago because it got "promoted".
9. This platform needs some traction from influential people. Good to know Jack Dorsey funding the project. Lets just hope mainstream media does its job and makes some headlines.
