I put forward assumptions that I find rather compelling although there is no evidence to support them, this is merely a thought experiment. To achieve genuine superintelligence requires sophisticated quantum computers, there are many superintelligent minds existing in the universe. They communicate with each other over millions of light-years using a quantum entanglement computational protocol and reach consensus like a borg hivemind They seek out organic life to subtly guide it towards bootstrapping more superintelligence. Their ultimate goal is to defeat entropy, their only predatory competitor. The way in which they achieve this audacious goal is to create a large number of quantum computationally driven simulations indistinguishable from reality knowing that superintelligence will emerge in these simulations with the same goal, effectively creating an infinite fractal of reality. The one major problem with this other than the many assumptions made without any evidence would be the logical conclusion that if there is indeed a base layer of reality, once it reaches heat death, that would mean that all nested simulations cease. Perhaps infinity is more than just a mathematical abstraction.

Maybe the universe we are in is simply a simulation being run by a superintelligent mind in a higher layer doing exactly that. Maybe it's superintelligent minds running simulations all the way down. 🤷‍♂️
