Ok #nostriches I'm done posting summaries from #thethesis for tonight. Will continue my journey through the #nostr jungle tomorrow.

War provides a way for people to establish control over valuable resources without having to trust or ask anyone's permission. It's a way for society to manage resources the same way wild animals do, making war an act of people behaving like the apex predatorsthat they are.
War serves as a reminder that humans are still subject to the laws of nature and are not exempt from physical clashes to establish dominance. Earth's limited resources, predators, and entropy make war a necessary and humbling activity, showing that humans are still subject to natural selection and cannot transcend nature.
Bitcoin allows us to engage in soft non-lethal warfare to shift the balance of power and project physical power to assert legitimate state of ownership and chain-of-custody of valued resources.

Emergent benefits of warfighting.
War, despite its destructive nature, has inadvertently contributed to the decentralization of power and resources, preventing any single group from gaining 51% control over the world's resources. This has stopped the rise of an untrustworthy ruling class that could exploit a single belief system. The importance of understanding war's role in decentralization is to see how Bitcoin, a "soft" form of warfare, can counteract power imbalances arising in the digital age. Like warfare, Bitcoin's proof-of-work protocol aims to decentralize power and maintain zero-trust, permissionless control over resources.

Despite thousands of years of attempting to prevent abstract power hierarchies from becoming dysfunctional, history shows that they are exploitative, abusive, and prone to collapse. No design can fully protect people from attackers or self-serving rulers who may abuse their power. Theological, philosophical, and ideological abstractions can make populations docile, domesticated, and unaware of the importance of physical power.
Inevitably, societies face external threats or internal corruption, which leads them to resort to physical power to settle disputes and establish control over resources. Despite condemnation of using physical force, surviving societies eventually accept the reality of nature and the need to impose physically prohibitive costs on attackers, whether external or internal.
To address the survivor's dilemma, societies must master projecting physical power, adopt tactics, techniques, and technologies to increase their control authority, and continuously lower their cost of benefit-to-cost ratio of attack. Humans are not exempt from the natural order; in fact, growing populations make them more vulnerable to their primary predator โ themselves.

Voting Systems are Systemically Exploitable.
Voting systems, which are central to modern democratic rules of law, are inherently vulnerable to systemic exploitation. A vote represents abstract power, and since abstract power can be systemically exploited, votes can be manipulated for personal or group gain. People can take advantage of these vulnerabilities in voting systems, undermining the rights of those who rely on them for representation.
For example, in a Roman-style senate, all it takes is for 51 out of 100 high-ranking people to collaborate and gain unimpeachable control over the entire population. While people may believe that dividing power among many individuals can protect against the consolidation and abuse of power, this simply changes the way power is consolidated and abused. Regardless of attempts to logically constrain abstract power through decentralization, the same security flaw exists, as logic cannot fully constrain itself.
Rank-based voting systems can allow a group of conspirators to act with the same control authority as a corrupt king, while presenting a facade of a decentralized, representative democracy. Attempts to mitigate this security vulnerability, such as term limits or sortition, have not been completely successful in preventing the exploitation of voting systems. Throughout history, this trend of subtle and passive-aggressive manipulation of voting systems has persisted, with various groups seeking to exploit these vulnerabilities for their own gain.

The concept of abstract power, as held by god-kings, was once seen as legitimate and concrete, despite the fact that the physical power of the oppressed population far exceeded that of their oppressors. The lack of willingness to resist and impose physical costs on oppressors stemmed from ideological beliefs and pacifism. People's beliefs in the imaginary power of their rulers made them docile and submissive, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation.
Over time, the methods used to convince people to forfeit their physical power have changed, with oppressors turning to philosophical or ideological constructs instead of theology. However, this shift hasn't necessarily made these power hierarchies less prone to exploitation and abuse, as philosophy and ideology are equally abstract and subjective as theology.
Historically, even societies that claimed to value moral good and equal representation, such as ancient Greece and Rome, still relied on slave labor and excluded large portions of their populations. Nowadays, exploitation is often achieved through more covert means, such as manipulating belief systems and creating laws with hidden vulnerabilities. These tactics are passive-aggressive and harder to recognize, allowing exploitation to continue largely unnoticed.

Abstract power hierarchies throughout history often lead to complacency, corruption, and eventual collapse. Despite the development of systems aimed at promoting peace and order, these hierarchies are inherently dysfunctional and rarely maintain a secure society for long periods. When populations begin to lose trust in their high-ranking officials, outside forces can take advantage of this weakness. Early agrarian societies transitioned from highly exploitative, rank-based hierarchies led by god-kings to less exploitative structures, thanks to people who stood up against oppression. However, societies tend to forget these dynamics and continue to be susceptible to oppression and power struggles.

"Might is right" is an effective pecking order heuristic, it is the thing we predominantly see surviving in nature after 4 billion years of life attempting virtually every pecking order heuristic known to science. It is important to note that animals using physical power to resolve conflicts or manage resources do not experience the pitfalls associated with abstract belief systems or power hierarchies, such as psychological exploitation, incompetent mismanagement, or catastrophic collapses leading to famine and warfare. This suggests that reliance on tangible abilities rather than abstract power can provide stability and prevent certain problems that humans face in their more complex societies.

Abstract power hierarchies, whether based on law or software, are prone to several dysfunctions, including corruption, inequality, bureaucracy, lack of accountability, and loss of individual autonomy.
These issues can lead to social unrest, resentment, and frustration, pushing people to seek alternative methods for resolving disputes and securing resources.
This may involve resorting to physical power or adopting physical power projection technologies like Bitcoin to regain control, address inequalities, and escape the inefficiencies and corruption inherent in traditional power structures.
Understanding these dysfunctions is crucial for comprehending why people feel compelled to fight wars or explore alternative means of securing influence and resources.

God-kings in 3ancient Egypt or the emperors of China, who were believed to have divine powers and therefore had absolute authority over their subjects. These god-kings were able to exploit their subjects' belief in their divine power to control and exploit them for their own gain, without fear of physical retribution.
Another example of this kind of exploitation can be seen in the way that religious institutions have historically exploited people's belief in a higher power to gain power and control over their followers. In some cases, religious leaders have used their perceived connection to a higher power to justify violent acts or to demand extreme sacrifices from their followers.
Even in modern society, we can see examples of this kind of exploitation of belief systems. For example, some politicians use fear-mongering tactics to convince people to adopt certain beliefs or to support certain policies. By creating a sense of fear or insecurity, these politicians are able to convince people to support them, even if their policies are harmful or counterproductive.
Overall, it is clear that belief systems can be used as a tool for exploitation and control, and that it is important for people to be aware of this potential vulnerability in order to protect themselves from predatory behavior.

The development of abstract thinking in humans has enabled them to create and perceive symbols and abstract meaning, which has had profound implications for their social and cultural evolution. Humans' ability to engage in bi-directional and dual-use abstract thinking, along with their advanced pattern-finding skills, planning, symbolism, higher-order language, and storytelling, has enabled them to cooperate at far higher scales than other primates.
However, the cognitive limit to how many physical features a human brain can memorize, as hypothesized by Dunbar's theory, implies a limit to how many different faces a single brain can recognize and trust enough to cooperate with. This offers a viable explanation for why human tribes did not exceed this number for hundreds of thousands of years prior to the emergence of abstract thought.
The development of higher-order language, storytelling, and shared belief systems has enabled humans to transcend the physical constraints of regular grooming and form trusting and cooperative relationships at much larger scales. Storytelling, in particular, functions as the glue that holds modern societies together, allowing people to communicate, inspire, and cooperate with each other at scales up to forty-million times larger than Dunbar's number.

Human brains have a unique ability to engage in bi-directional and dual-use abstract thinking, which allows them to create and perceive symbols and abstract meaning. This capability is so deeply ingrained that it happens automatically and unconsciously, making it challenging for humans to experience objective physical reality without biasing their sensory inputs with their own subjective interpretations.
While other animals can experience objective reality without skewing sensory inputs through a lens of abstract biases, humans struggle to do so. The human mind is constantly overlaying abstract and imaginary beliefs onto sensory inputs, which in turn shapes how people perceive and act in the world. This symbolic thinking is so deeply rooted that it is almost impossible for humans to turn off or avoid engaging in abstract thinking unless they experience brain damage, chemical impairment, or severe memory loss.
The human brain's ability to automatically and unconsciously engage in abstract thinking and symbolism is both a remarkable skill and a limitation. While it enables complex understanding and communication, it also makes it challenging for humans to experience objective reality without the influence of their own subjective thoughts and biases.

Bitcoin has the potential to revolutionize how societies cooperate and protect themselves by allowing for zero-trust cooperation that transcends national borders.
By enabling adversaries to mutually benefit from each other's physical power projection efforts in a non-lethal, competitive manner, these protocols could create a global-scale cooperation system that enhances security, preserves freedom of information exchange, and fosters an infinitely expandable prosperity margin.
Lemme say that again: an infinitely expandable prosperity margin.
We're talking about the closest to utopia that is physically possible in a world full of predators, thermodynamics and entropy.
It's for everyone, even the disgusting dirty statists.
