I’ve been through a few companies that did layoffs. My first, I was a part of it. I had heard about it and there were even websites posting about when it would happen. I got an invite around 9:30am that there was an 11am mandatory meeting and I packed all my stuff so it would be easy. While waiting in line there was a guy in front of me confused, and I quietly told him there were rumors of layoffs, but he still didn’t seem to understand. It was a crazy experience being in a room with ~200 people getting fired. I hope I never go through it again. One guy stood up and said “go fuck yourselves”. Others were crying. I left with my things I’d luckily bore-packed, and saw another set of people crying on the T (Boston’s version of the subway). My current company, I’ve been through 4 rounds of layoffs. It’s been weird seeing it on the other side. Round after round where the best people are let go. We keep going, but we really have lost some of our best. It’s clearly decided by consultants with their spans and layers contractions. Ugh

It’s my birthday, which is a good time to reflect. In the last year I actually had more significant moments in my life than I’ve had in at least the three years before. I got married, got a promotion, went to 8 BitDevs, managed 2 new employees, went to 3 weddings other than my own, started volunteering somewhere new, started using NOSTR, recorded some podcasts, read some books, started going to an office 2 days a week (for the first time since 2020), made an offer on a house (still live in an apartment, it wasn’t accepted, 15% above asking cash offer got it), and I’m sure a bunch of other things. The only things I care about committing to for the next year are my family, my friends, my health, and learning something new every day.

I’ve gotten 1021 sats in the last 10 minutes on nostr. I’m sure saying that means I’ll get fewer over the next 100, but it’s hilarious how much time I’ve spent I the last week on stupid games and apps to get ~200 sats every few days because I appreciate minuscule sats so much. Buying them isn’t enough. Gotta earn them

I am so lucky to have y’all from early nostr I’m here because I believe in free speech, and this is the platform that may actually deliver it If I’m wrong, let me know why

I’ve been too much of a lurker on nostr lately, committing to start posting daily again (including replies)

Was Barry the first show to continue sound from the episode in the credits instead of music? It’s usually just ambient noise of bugs chirping, but it’s such a powerful thing I’m surprised it isn’t used more.

I never considered myself a liberal, but I listened to NPR daily for years, subscribed to the NYT for years, because I wanted to have a sense of the fancy liberal perspective. Both completely lost me over time. For NPR, it was a slow burn that eventually extinguished when I no longer had a commute. For NYT, it was firing James Bennet for publishing an op ed from a sitting senator. Now I primarily subscribe via substack and patreon. News is a commodity, and I’ll pay for opinions from individuals I trust. There are no publications I trust at this point

Is there a good article with the tldr on stamps? I tried googling bitcoin stamps, and apparently there are a lot of physical stamps I’m not interested in

As I just got on YouTube: “want to be a consistent trader? Then stop doing this! (Video of drawing triangles)” I cut it off at that point, but it’s hilarious that even the scam ads are now neging the triangle drawers
