PSA: SECURITY ALERT! Social engineering is a thing and scammers are out in force. Beware of the two new methods they are using. 1) Google security alerts in your email inbox. Followed up by a phone call from Google security team. They'll all you to change security settings on your account. FYI Google will NEVER call you directly. If you get one of these calls, hang up. Change your password on your Gmail account.
2) Follow up call will come from your multi sig provider security team. "Someone is trying to move your assets, but we stopped them" They'll have all your information including your personal advisor, all your moves of your assets, dates, amounts and origination wallets etc. very convincing human interaction. They'll want you to download a hot wallet to temporarily move your assets while they fix your security setup. Don't do anything but call your custodian directly and speak with your personal advisor to verify they are actually trying to contact you about a security breach. You'll find out it's an imposter immediately. Again give no information to the person contacting you no matter how convincing they sound.
3) You receive a call from IC3 (Internet Crimes division of the US government) Like Google and your custodian, IC3 will never call you directly.
REMEDY: A) Change your email to an encrypted account like PROTON, have your custodian update your records so you can only be reached through that secure channel. B) Don't answer questions from unsolicited callers even when the caller ID looks legit. C) Don't panic about any information given to you even when they seem to have all the "receipts" on you.
Data breaches happen. My email has been found in over a dozen places on the dark web. AI can scrub through your mail and learn everything about you. That technology can dupe the smartest people. Stay on guard for unusual or unexpected, unsolicited calls from real people with legit looking caller ID's who act like they know you and are wanting to help protect you from security threats. Change your passwords. Call your trusted custodians directly. Verify your agent even when you know their voice.
It's getting spooky out there. Threats are real. Protect yourself in every way possible.
