⚡️🚨 ICYMI - MYSTERY BITCOIN SWEEP HITS 500 SINGLE-SIG ADDRESSES
Roughly 594 BTC, worth about $38 million, was swept from 500 addresses within 25 minutes Thursday, with the funds later consolidated into another wallet.
All affected holdings reportedly used single-signature addresses and contained a narrow range of roughly 0.15 to 0.26 BTC. Many UTXOs had remained dormant for years.
Early speculation centered on Coldcard because at least one victim used the device. Coldcard CEO NVK rejected claims of a device-wide breach, saying the user may have imported a previously compromised or weak seed and noting the sweep involves keys from different wallets.
Jameson Lopp said another victim lost only selected UTXOs, not the wallet’s entire balance. That could indicate exposure of individual private keys rather than complete seed compromise.
The coordinated sweep appears real, but its source remains unknown. There is currently no evidence establishing a Coldcard RNG flaw, supply-chain breach or Bitcoin cryptographic failure.
