A low-fi audiozine that puts the punk back in cypherpunk.
Maybe the ultimate poet-musician collaboration? Burroughs and Cobain. Some of the best digital experiences I've had was being part of the Satellite Spotlights with the #v4v gang here in this kind of vibe. It was a very nice collaboration of visual artists, musicians, podcasters, poets and technologists. I have yet to see any digital experience match it. And you can even watch the old ones!
I read these two books back-to-back. The Dream Hotel is extremely good. The Every has some clever ideas but it's a bit campy. I'll be doing an audio review of them for the upcoming bitpunk.fm image
I sent some Cosmic Cassettes out just this week. You can request one still my post card or just send me a postagram to say hi like @Boolysteed did πŸ˜† image
Despite all the encryption systems I have built and broken over the years, I think perhaps the best system today might just be an handwritten or typed letter. If you have not sent one in a while, I'd encourage you to try it for #analogaugust.
What I like about the surveillance state is that there are cameras everywhere. Walking outside your home is now a performance! When I go to coffee shops I dress the part. I spread out all the papers for my draft book while wearing a walkman. All caught on camera! My makeup was so so, and my reading poetry in my I'm-on-a-zoom-call-in-public-voice could have been louder, but overall I was happy with my performance.
I received this postagram to my PO Box recently. What's a postagram? It's return of value to me in the form of a postcard. Not all value is denominated in sats. Since it's analog August, send a post card to someone! It's fun! Don't know anybody's address? No problem, send one to me. The address is on my website: bitpunk.fm image
My three favorite platforms are Bandcamp, substack, and primal. In this substack article the number 1 call to action is: Let’s create a music platform that looks like a cross between Substack, Bandcamp, and Spotify. We got into this topic a bit in the recent v4vj roundtable. This article is a bit frustrating because the independent web exists. People want it, but not really. Which is why primal is popular, why people don't run their own nodes (Bitcoin or nostr relay), and why bitcoinfluencers still shill advertisers. But I do think he is correct that the future of digital music experience is more than just streaming (Spotify), more than just buying albums (Bandcamp), and more than content (substack).
It is international Analog August month! I am celebrating with some Miles Davis throwbacks. This autobiography is wild -- crazier than rock and roll autobiographies. You can participate too! Try an acoustic instrument this month! It could be as simple as whistling, drums, or whatever you wish. But try it out. I love synths as much as the next person, but the expressive nature of acoustic instruments connected to you is an experience. image
I just heard odell talking to calle, where odell said "world governments will start to ban bluetooth connections." This dude probably doesn't even know what a frequency is, let alone the frequency bluetooth operates on. Software people talking about hardware is always entertaining.
