Over the long weekend we set up our biogas generator from Homebiogas.
It is the Homebiogas 4.0 model. It has a 700 gallon digestion chamber and holds 317 gallons of biogas. There is 325 pounds of sand on top to pressurize the gas, which will be used for cooking initially.
I just added 50 gallons of pig manure slurry today to activate it.
Making pig manure slurry is one of those tasks you want to keep your mouth closed for!
The main feedstock will be pig manure. The effluent will be gravity fed to composing worm beds.
The one eye opening thing for me is the gas production. According to the manual it can make 7.5 kWh of energy per day, so it would take 2 1/2 weeks to produce the amount of energy in one 20 lb propane tank. Fossil fuels embody so much energy!
