Bird of the day: Blue Jay I absolutely love this bird. I see them all the time in Newfoundland where I’m from and they are also my favourite baseball team! The blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to eastern North America. It lives in most of the eastern and central United States; some eastern populations may be migratory. Resident populations are also in Newfoundland, Canada; breeding populations are found across southern Canada. It breeds in both deciduous and coniferous forests, and is common in residential areas. Its coloration is predominantly blue, with a white chest and underparts, and a blue crest; it has a black, U-shaped collar around its neck and a black border behind the crest. Males and females are similar in size and plumage, and plumage does not vary throughout the year. Four subspecies have been recognized. #birdstr image

I have a sneaking suspicion that #nostr cares more about the price of bitcoin than they do about birds.

Daily Roman History: During the late republic in 119BC a voting reform was passed by then Tribune Gaius Marius to narrow the hallway leading to the election ballot box. This was done to prevent party supporters from occupying the hallway and heckling voters to their side, ranging from bribery to threats of violence. Before the reform this was common practise. image

Daily Roman Facts: After ending the crisis of the third century, reforming the Empires coinage system, creating the Tetrarchy power division, and several successful military campaigns the Emperor Diocletian also holds the distinction of being the first emperor to abdicate the throne voluntarily as illnesses began to take hold. Retiring to his hobby of gardening in his palace in Salona (modern-day Split, Croatia) he was beseeched many times to reclaim his throne as the Tetrarchy fell apart under ambitious successors, most notably Constantine the Great. His reply: "If you could show the cabbage that I planted with my own hands to your Emperor, he definitely wouldn't dare suggest that I replace the peace and happiness of this place with the storms of a never-satisfied greed". image

Bird of The Day: Little Penguin The little penguin (Eudyptula minor) is a species of penguin from New Zealand. Daily Roman History: A seer told a young Caligula he had as much chance as being Emperor as he did crossing the Bay of Baiae. When he did become Emperor Caligula ordered a fleet of ships to be lashed together and filled with dirt to create a makeshift bridge on which he rode his horse across the bay to disprove the prophecy. Due to taking the ships used for goods transportation this cause a minor famine in the Italian peninsula. #history image

GOOD MORNING ☀️ #nostr Bird of The Day: Canada Goose Like most geese, the Canada goose is naturally migratory with the wintering range being most of the United States. The calls overhead from large groups of Canada geese flying in a V-shaped formation signal the transitions into spring and autumn. In some areas, migration routes have changed due to changes in habitat and food sources. In mild climates from southwestern British Columbia to California to the Great Lakes, some of the population has become nonmigratory due to adequate winter food supply and a lack of former predators. #birdstr image

Daily Roman Facts: Marcus Valerius Corvus received his unique agnomen while on campaign against the Gauls in Northern Italy in 349BC. Prior to a battle a hulking Gallic warrior challenged any man on the Roman side to single combat. With consuler approval Valerius accepted. As the two approached a raven landed on Valerius' shoulder and aided him through the battle by attacking the opponents face and eyes with Valerius ultimately slaying his foe. After the battle was won for Rome Corvus, meaning 'raven' in Latin, was added to his name. #history image
