Another reason is time perception itself. The brain does not measure time like a clock; it measures change, novelty, emotion, and memory density.
When life is repetitive and numb, years can disappear quickly in hindsight.
When life is emotionally intense or full of major internal change, the brain stores more memories, making that period feel much longer.
