The Guru's Grace (spiritual teacher) is both external and internal. From the outside, he pushes the mind inwards, and from the inside he pulls the mind towards the Self and helps it keep quiet. That is the grace. There is no difference between God, guru and Self. A guru's help is necessary and useful to start you on the inquiry, but you yourself must pursue it.

The Guru may tell his disciples a thousand times, 'You are the Self, you are not what you imagine yourself to be', but none of them ever believes him. They all keep asking the Guru for methods and routes to reach the place where they already are. #AnnamalaiSwami image

If you surrender yourself to the Higher Power all is well. That Power sees your affairs through. Only so long as you think that you are the worker you are obliged to reap the fruits of your actions. If on the other hand, you surrender yourself and recognise your individual self as only a tool of the Higher Power, that Power will take over your affairs along with the fruits of actions. You are no longer affected by them and the work goes on unhampered. Whether you recognise the Power or not the scheme of things does not alter. Only there is a change of outlook. #SriRamanaMaharshi

Seek for the Self through meditation by tracing every thought back to its origin, which is only the mind. Never allow thought to run on. If you do, it will be unending. Take it back to the starting place - the mind - again and again, and the thought and the mind will both die of inaction. The mind only exists by reason of thought. Stop that and there is no mind. As each doubt and depression arises, ask yourself, "Who is it that doubts? What is it that is depressed?" Go back constantly to the question, "Who is the 'I'? Where is it? Tear everything away until there is nothing but the source of all remains. Live always in the present; there is no past or future, except in the mind. #SriRamanaMaharshi image

You cannot tune in with great saints unless you are spiritually receptive. If the person who is invoking the presence of a holy personage is not spiritually ready, that saint cannot communicate with him. Suppose you are invoking the the soul of Jesus Christ, or Krishna, or Buddha. Divine ones such as these won't come until your consciousness has become so refined through meditation that you can receive them. The vibratory power of their manifestation is so intense it could burn the body and brain of one not attuned. I have seen avatars and many saints; you can, too, when your own spiritual vibration becomes very strong. These divine souls are present in the ether - no one has ever become nothing after leaving the physical body. They respond to your prayers and bless you. They live in the astral world unless they have reincarnated on earth or on other higher planets where the evolution of man is further advanced. #ParamahansaYogananda image

Don't mentally review any problem constantly. Let it rest at times and it may work itself out; but see that you do not rest so long that your discrimination is lost. Rather, use these rest periods to go deep within the calm regions of your inner Self. #ParamahansaYogananda

"When people used to complain to the Buddha that they were upset, telling him, "Our children upset us; our partner agitates us," his simple reply would be, "You are not upset because of your children or your partner; you are upset because you are upsettable." #EknathEaswaran image

A MEDITATION TECHNIQUE: When you look, you are throwing a certain amount of energy. Wait, be silent, and allow that energy to come back. And you will be surprised. If you can allow the energy to come back, you will never feel exhausted. In fact, you may be revitalized. #Osho image

"Meditation is not a solution to any problem, it solves nothing. It simply helps you to get rid of the mind, the problem-creator. It helps you to slip out of the mind like a snake slips out of the old skin." #Osho image
