The Guru's Grace (spiritual teacher) is both external and internal. From the outside, he pushes the mind inwards, and from the inside he pulls the mind towards the Self and helps it keep quiet. That is the grace. There is no difference between God, guru and Self. A guru's help is necessary and useful to start you on the inquiry, but you yourself must pursue it.

What we are all doing is, we realised or regard as real that which is unreal. This habit of ours has to be given up. #SriRamanaMaharshi

Do you not know your Self? You certainly exist. Or do you deny your existence? The question may arise "Who is this Self", only if you do not exist, but you cannot ask anything unless you exist at the same time. Your question shows that you exist. Find out who you are. That is all. #SriRamanaMaharshi

Pay no attention to the thoughts that bother you. Don't fight them. Just do nothing about them, let them be, whatever they are. Your very fighting them gives them life. Just disregard. Look through. #SRINISARGADATTAMAHARAJ

The jnani knows what is eternal and what is not. It is to be understood by discrimination. What is understood by the mind has to be further discriminated. In this process one understands the gross body and the subtle body. The jnani thinks of the Sattva, the ‘I am-ness’ or consciousness with discrimination. He then becomes stabilized in his true nature. The gross body is made up of food. Consciousness flows from the essence of food and the feeling ‘I am’ arises from consciousness. It is the instrument for right discrimination. The jnani knows that it too is transient. One who discriminates about time is not bound by time. He is the knower of time. He is prior to what he knows or senses. As long as you think that death is real, you have not come out of the cocoon of consciousness. The seeker has to convince himself first that he is not the body. Until then he cannot discriminate. How can he, who is not the body, ever be stained? With body-consciousness, one suffers misery even if there is apparent happiness. Without body-consciousness, one is happy even in misery. He is liberated. Ego means identification with the body. As space does not go from here to there, the Self does not go places. It is everywhere. Where there is no discrimination, death is real. It is not real for a jnani. It is the ego that performs actions taking the body as its nature. If a man is told that he will deliver a child in two days, he will not be affected (as he knows it is not possible). Similarly, one who knows that he is not the body is never afraid of death. Parabrahman neither comes nor goes. He is infinite. Brahman (with qualities) has to come and go through it all. The jnani discriminates as to what it is all about. His being in the body is incidental. As the Self, he pervades inside, outside, and everywhere. As an example, the vessels may be big or small but the space in them is the same. Think properly about this while prana is still in the body. As long as the body and prana are united, there is experience. A jnani knows that he is not what can be known. He is the knower. A jnani knows that. You are not consciousness, nor what is experienced through consciousness. Discriminate properly to understand this. One who identifies with what the mind says is a sinner. He is in bondage. Parabrahman has no identity. He is beyond everything. The company of consciousness will end just as the sun sets, just as childhood ends. Observe consciousness. Worship it with love and give it the status of God. In the end you will be convinced that you are the Self. This only is the spiritual path, the ultimate Truth. #SriNisargadattaMaharaj image

The ultimate point of view is that there is nothing to understand, so when we try to understand, we are only indulging in acrobatics of the mind. Whatever you have understood, you are not. Why are you getting lost in concepts? You are not what you know, you are the knower. #SriNisargadattaMaharaj

When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it. #Rumi

If you think becoming a vegetarian is more spiritual to buy organic foods, practice yoga and meditate, but then you catch yourself judging those who don't do all these things, you are fell into an ego trap. When you think riding your bike or public transport to work is more " spiritual but then you judge those sitting in the car, you've fallen into an ego trap. When you think it's more " spiritual" to stop watching TV because it turns off your brain, but then you judge those who still watch TV, then you've fallen into an ego trap. When you think it's more spiritual not to read newspapers and gossip journals, but then you judge those who read them, you've fallen into an ego trap. If you think it's more ' spiritual ' to listen to classical music or nature sounds, but then you judge those who listen to commercial music, you've fallen into an ego trap. You always have to be careful with the sense of 'superiority'. It's the most important clue we have to realize we're falling into an ego trap. The ego cleverly hides in noble thoughts, such as starting a vegetarian diet or using the bike, and then turns into a sense of superiority to those who don't go the same spiritual path. #mooji

The ego is bound to be there because without the ego, there would be no transcendence of ego. Therefore, maya is necessary for there to be self realization What if there was no ego to transcend, There could never have been a Christ, or a Buddha, or a Mohammed, a Ramana Maharshi, or anandamayi ma. They represent transcendence over ego. #mooji

The best guidance arises from inside. Something is always guiding you in the moment. If you go upstairs to the mind with it, trouble will come. But things work themselves out when you stay centered in and as your natural neutrality, that greater space of awareness, which is uninvolved and untroubled. #Mooji image
