🌿🌊 From peaceful Hohenau to golden bulls on the birthday road We wrapped up our time in Hohenau with one last outing to the beach in Encarnación. A fresh chicken salad, sunshine on our faces, and our daughter laughing in the water — a perfect ending to a slow and peaceful chapter in Paraguay. Then it was time to hit the road again. On July 15, my birthday, we began our journey toward Ciudad del Este. Along the way, the universe gave us a little gift: a new all-time high for Bitcoin 🧡🎉 To top it off, we stumbled across “Boi de Ouro” in Santa Rita — a restaurant we couldn’t possibly ignore thanks to the giant golden bull outside 🐂✨ We stopped. 🌴🛶 Slowing down in Hohenau – local style The last few days we’ve taken it easy here in Hohenau. A bit of rest, a few small trips, and a taste of what local life feels like. We visited nearby beaches where you literally drive right onto the sand — and everywhere you go, there are open huts for anyone to use. Just bring some food, fire up a barbecue, and enjoy the riverside breeze. While walking along the water we got a real surprise: a stingray in the shallows! Definitely not something we expected, and it made the day a lot more memorable 🐟😅 We also visited Capitán Miranda, had ice cream, and stumbled upon the local Dutch-speaking clubhouse. 🚌🍝 From bus chaos to calm comfort – Hello Hohenau We left San Juan Bautista today — but it didn’t go quite as planned. No tickets available to Hohenau (ticket counters were closed), so we rerouted: first a bus to Encarnación, then another one to Hohenau. On the way? A flat tire. But this is Paraguay — a local mechanic fixed it on the spot, while walking around the bus. 15 minutes later, we were back on the road. Efficiency, the Paraguayan way. Now we’re settling into our new home for the week: a beautiful and comfy house built by Lars and Jennifer — it feels like European comfort with Paraguayan warmth 🏡🇵🇾 We were welcomed by the neighbors staying next door with their two kids. They sold everything back home and started over here. To top it all off, they made us a homemade spaghetti bolognese for dinner — and judging by the empty plates, it was a hit. Tired but full. 🚌🌞 Unexpected joy in San Juan Bautista Took the bus today — a bit more comfort this time — and landed in San Juan Bautista with no real expectations. But wow… what a town. This place lives — full of kids, energy, music, and horses. 🐎 The whole community feels connected. We arrived just in time for a local horse parade, and everywhere we looked, people were out, talking, playing, living. Our daughter took the lead today, running from playground to playground, blending in effortlessly with local kids. She laughed, climbed, swung, and beamed. In one of the parks, monkeys were swinging in the trees — and just watching them was magic 🐒🌳 She was happy, and that’s always the real goal. Parents happy too. 🍳🧗‍♂️ From scrambled eggs to scrambling up cliffs – Paraguarí delivers We kicked off the day with a dreamy breakfast: scrambled eggs on toast, fresh fruit, cold juice, and a warm cappuccino. Sunshine, peace, and a full belly — perfect combo. Then we set off for Cerro Hú (536m). But instead of starting from La Casita del Cerro, we unknowingly took the tough back route — steep, rocky, barely marked. With our daughter on my back, we scrambled through wild terrain for about 2.5 hours, getting lost more than once. Midway, a kind local helped us over a giant boulder — just in time. And from there, we carried on ourselves… but not alone. A friendly dog from the neighborhood joined us at the very start — and stayed with us the whole way. No leash, no hesitation, just pure loyalty and mountain wisdom 🐕⛰️ We finally emerged at La Casita, tired but elated. To top it all off, we had fresh pasta and two coffees at Pronta — all for 71,000 guaraní 🍝☕. Today was one for the books.
