Shower thought: (Classical) fiat is based on proof of work. You received it only in exchange for working. Modern fiat is based on financialization: work is replaced by promise. Promise to pay back later (private loan), promise of ownership of a valuable asset (real estate loan), promise of future ROI (investment), promise of achieving The Greater Good™ (government bonds), etc. Those things will happen in a Bitcoin world, too, because humans. It'll be easier to identify the underlying, but it's not effectively different. People will organize to route around the strict rules of Bitcoin by a consensus that isn't algorithmic, but social. Cryptographic proof of underlying will be discouraged by regulators, in favor of sign-off by a certified auditing firm, etc. Not wishful thinking of course, quite the opposite. But seems inevitable to me. Thoughts?
