Web push notifications from Iris. It's a bit chatty. It's a bit of a turnoff that many people who advocate for carnivore diet and healthy lifestyle are selling or marketing dietary supplements. Joe Rogan, Mikhaila Peterson and Paul Saladino come to mind.
Apparently it's a scalable money-making machine for famous people. Supplements are also not natural, necessary or good for your stack of sats. They should just sell t-shirts or join Nostr for zaps instead.

Gentle coding background music by a Finnish folk band. First and last songs in Finnish, the rest in some weird kind of Swedish. Takes you to ancient times.
Maybe we could do a nostr based application for founding and managing mutual insurance pools. You could join a grassroots pool of your extended family, local plebs or other group that trusts each other. Small pools could then unite as larger mutual pools that provide reinsurance.
This doesn't prevent officially incorporated pools from participating, but contractual, trust-based pools that keep their funds in bitcoin multisig could be operated without relying on government institutions.
One interesting idea is that you could appeal to reinsurers if your claim gets rejected on a lower level.
Bitcoin is the free market alternative to banks and government money. How can we do a free market alternative to insurance companies?
Insurance is the natural enemy of public harms like the junk food industry. It could even proactively protect our personal safety and health.
The problem is, just like banks, current insurance companies are behemoths that are entwined in the system and lobby the government to stifle competition and innovation.
We need free market insurance that is independent of government institutions, just like Bitcoin.
Japan was amazing. It was great to meet new and old nostrich friends and get to know some of the Japanese community. Enjoyed the Tokyo vibe and t-shirt weather in November. Japanese food is in its own league.
Unfortunately I got pneumonia from the trip and spent 2 nights in the hospital back in Finland, getting IV antibiotics. It was an interesting experience, makes you appreciate health.
I'm mostly back in business by now, although haven't felt like going to the climbing gym yet.
Currently working on a 3-column layout for Iris & Snort. Iris is like a beta version of Snort: I usually deploy every commit, so it's already there ๐
Looking forward to the next gathering of nostriches, and working to get some cool stuff done before it!Social graph now with avatars:
The social graph is not automatically loaded: you should visit your profile Follows and Followers tabs first and then go to Settings -> Social Graph.
The graph needs some adjustment to make it more informative. If you want to contribute, the code is here: https://git.v0l.io/mmalmi/snort/src/branch/main/packages/app/src/Pages/NetworkGraph.tsx

This is not my account, please unfollow: npub16yh7kd9nacfqggacrrxcmkj8qqrrnwlvnfhwd5e3065gdmzmpp8syusv37
I'm not sure if I've actually created the account on Oct 26 2022 (profile event created_at) or if it's backdated by someone ๐
There's some legend.lnbits.com lightning url on the profile, but I don't have any lnbits.com wallet bookmarked.
If the room is full during our presentation at Bitcoin Amsterdam, you can go watch @Edward Snowden ; he's scheduled at the same time.
Wow, Iris is Snort and Snort is Iris.
We're now working on the same codebase (from Snort) to avoid duplicate work and get more done. MIT license. Looking forward to bringing together the best of both clients.
If you prefer the old Iris, you can find it at https://old.iris.to.

Spam prevention should work by discarding events from users that are not connected to your social network like normal users are. For example, swarms of users that are connected by only 1 or less follows from legit users.
Iris already discards messages from completely unconnected users, but need to add shared block list support and better detection of sybil swarms.
This should work especially for trending algorithms, where reactions from socially connected users are more valuable anyway, and missing a like doesn't matter so much.
Currently Iris trending list comes from nostr.band, but I want to do it locally at some point. That's the only way you know what you get.
