Gm nostr. Yesterday i got the barn floor cleaned out and filled two compost bins. Interestingly, thousands of ants had colonized the deep litter. This happens every winter but not in summer. The ants emit a lemony scent when disturbed. I looked them up. They are called common citronella ants. The hens enjoyed eating their egg cases. These ants are probably living deep in the ground near the barn and move in to access resources in the deep moist litter.

Still a little behind on the growing season here. But that can change in few days...
