Got woken up this morning earlier than I had hoped with a call from the next door neighbor where the #livestock are grazing. They had some unexpected visitors. Something must have spooked the livestock and they broke through the hotwire. With the help of the neighbor and some alfalfa we were able to get them all rounded back up. #grownostr #homestead #iwassupposedtosleepintoday #waterbuffalo #cows

Time to re-up on the feed before pricing goes up. Got 2 tons of a general 16% non GMO, non soy feed we use for our birds, pigs, and sometimes cows. Along with 1/2 ton of scratch. #grownostr #livestock

Finally took the 5 minutes to make my fence charger smart by adding a Shelly 1 relay to the system. Excuse the wiring mess but now I can disable my electric fence with my phone from the other side of the property or even when away from home. I can use the #Shelly app or #HomeAssistant. Such a simple thing that'll make a huge impact. I'll eventually add a project box to keep things weather safe and also a manual switch so if the ranch sitter ever needs to disable the electric fence, they can. #grownostr #smarthomestead #homestead

Now that warmer weather is here I acquired some azolla for the duck poop water system. This will be to grow some feed for the birds and maybe livestock. They have a smaller tub in the upper part of the orchard. This has a drain that flows down into a larger stock tank. Now on the hunt for water hyacinth. Had a short moment of panic this morning. When checking on the #livestock I couldn't find either of the 2 new calves. During all this I noticed both Lyra and Diana weren't worried looking for them. Drove all around the property and finally found Lyra's calf along the fence line hidden in some grass. I then kept looking for Diana's calf and started getting worried coyotes may have taken her. Finally found her when looking over the fence into the blackberry bramble. She must have crawled under the gap along the creek. Time to patch that up. Phew 😅 #grownostr #homestead

Zap zap #zap goes the electric fence. I always check the temp fencing before letting out the livestock to the tenp fenced areas. This fence checker is a must. Pleasant surprise after getting home from running errands. Diana finally had calf. It's a girl! So far so good. Great job Diana for her first calf and not needing help. Her udders are HUGE and I bet she is ready to get some relief. Her Jersey half is definitely showing but that huge full udder is going to help make for a big strong calf. 2 moos down and 1 more to go on the moo moo calf watch.
