Happy WEEKEND NOSTR🌱
Greetings from Jatiluwih Rice Terraces 🇮🇩
Jatiluwih covers about 303 hectares of lush rice fields, spread across the hills of Tabanan, Bali.
The terraces are part of Bali’s UNESCO-listed Subak (water irrigation) system, known for its eco-friendly farming.
Farmers in #Jatiluwih mostly grow traditional Balinese rice varieties, all cultivated organically (no chemicals).
The most common types are:
1. Padi Bali (Bali’s Traditional Rice) – A local red or white rice, resilient and suited to Bali’s climate.
2. Padi Merah (Red Rice) – Nutritious, takes longer to grow, and has a rich, nutty flavor.
3. Padi Hitam (Black Rice) – Used in #Balinese ceremonies and desserts, high in antioxidants.
Farmers use natural fertilizers (like compost) and pest control with ducks or fish, following the #Subak / Irrigation principles of sustainability.
