Israel could still be a 'potential spoiler' in US-Iran peace deal, says analyst "The United States and Iran reached a framework agreement on Sunday (Jun 14) aimed at ending months of conflict, with a formal signing ceremony expected in Switzerland on Friday. Speaking to CNA's Asia First, Barbara Slavin, distinguished fellow for the Middle East and North Africa at the Stimson Center, warns that Israel could be a "potential spoiler", citing Israeli strikes in Lebanon that could provoke Iranian retaliation and jeopardise the deal. She adds that key issues surrounding Iran's nuclear programme remain unresolved, while shipping companies are likely to remain cautious about the Strait of Hormuz until the ceasefire proves durable."

The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) elevated its counterintelligence threat assessment for Israel to "critical"—its highest possible designation. This escalation follows aggressive Israeli intelligence-gathering and eavesdropping targeting top U.S. officials, including peace negotiators working on a deal with Iran. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/06/us/politics/pentagon-sees-growing-espionage-threat-from-israel.html "Recent U.S. intelligence reports have raised concerns about Israeli spy agencies eavesdropping on American negotiators working on a peace deal with Iran, amid rising concern over a more general counterintelligence threat by Israel. Israel and the United States have long known, and tolerated, that each was spying on the other. But an intensified Israeli effort to learn about U.S. positions in talks with Iran has crossed a line, according to some American officials. The reports include concerns that Israel has stepped up its efforts to eavesdrop on senior American officials, including Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s top negotiator, Elbridge A. Colby, the Pentagon’s top policy official, and one of his main deputies, Michael P. DiMino IV."

From gasoline to groceries, prices surge across America The war on Iran has pushed up fuel and grocery costs, squeezing household budgets across the US "Industry executives warn the pain may not be over. “We’re sounding the alarm,” American Petroleum Institute CEO Mike Sommers told Fox Business, citing fuel inventories nearing critical lows. Some Trump administration officials have dismissed those concerns, industry sources said, noting that oil has yet to approach the $200-a-barrel levels predicted at the start of the war."
