The dentist I'm registered with has gone private and is longer seeing NHS patients, under the NHS patients still have to pay for work but the fees are tiered - £27 (check up, xrays) £75 (extraction, filling) £326 (crowns, inlays, false teeth), going private you can triple these prices (that's excluding cosmetic work like implants and veneers) and more and more dental practices are going private and don't want NHS work, my dentist said the government don't pay him enough and the practice earns way more doing private work, this is making finding an NHS dentist harder and harder for people when the cost of living in the UK is getting stupid (some of the highest energy prices in the world while they pursue net zero, concreting over oil & gas wells, stopping North Sea drilling, closing down coal power stations etc) Money doesn't buy happiness - but it stops you looking like a victorian peasant with a sucked in face because your teeth are knackered/missing. Not saying I can't/won't get it sorted but for Brits already struggling with the cost of living, dental woes is just another kick in the teeth. There's no prices on the website but how cool would one of these be if you had a sufficient reliable amount of water running through your property? They're available in kit form so you can assemble them in place without needing a telehandler or crane etc. The site had a few case studies were depending on the wheel size and water flow rate you could achieve about 3-6.5kw. One of the smaller examples had a 4m diameter wheel with a water supply of only 100l/s which didn't look a massive amount of water to me, that was producing 3.5kw (84kWh of power per day) The only maintenance on the wheel is greasing the bearings once a year.

There was an episode of Ben Fogle new lives in the Wild on the TV the other day, some guy that had trained to be a vet (a good career & relatively well paid some may argue) but he ended up hating it and decided to walk away from it all and go off grid in Wales. It looked like 'off grid' in Wales wasn't that straight forward though, to achieve his dream he had to partake in the Welsh Government's 'One Planet Development Scheme' where to build on the countryside your home has to be zero carbon in construction and your development has to support who lives there, every year you have to submit reports to the government proving that you're producing at least 65% of your own food and you are able to fund any remaining bills and costs from land-based business - in this guy's case that was selling honey & eggs, there was no mortgage or rent to pay but still had to pay council tax. From what I've seen on Homestead Rescue it looks like rules & regulations regarding off grid living vary from state to state in the US, there was an episode filmed in Oregon and they seemed quite strict about what you could build and where. It does make you wonder if achieving the off grid thing in the UK will become harder given the smaller land mass and less free (open) land compared to other larger countries. #homestead #offgrid (sort of)

It's understandable that people no longer 'trust the science', the experts or TV doctors as it often feels like the health service has been corrupted to benefit big pharma but there's gonna be some alternative quack shit out there, maybe it was a larp or engagement farming but there was someone on X posting about how sunburns are caused by bad diet and gut health 😂 Wouldn't be at all surprised if the companies that make suncream put a load of weird harmful chemicals in it and I don't usually bother with it myself, if it feels like I'm burning I cover up or seek shade but surely everyone can agree that over exposure to the sun can burn the skin, especially unacclimatized pale skin irrespective of one's gut health.

Not a massive fan of boxing but watched one of Carl Froch's videos the other day where he was explaining the rehydration clause for the Eubank - Benn fight and it became apparent why Eubank Sr was so unhappy about the fight, excessive weight cutting by removing water from the body also reduces the fluid surrounding and protecting the brain and the time between the final weigh in and the fight wouldn't be sufficient to fully rehydrate. Thankfully there were no serious injuries on the night but it does make you wonder why Eubank jr would accept such clauses and should boxers be allowed to take such extreme measures to make weight? Could do with a car as public transport doesn't really cut it where I am but what I can't be doing with is.... road tax, insurance, extortionate fuel costs (50% of which is tax), speed cameras, MOT's, new tyres, repair bills etc & that's coming from someone who's taken gearboxes out and changed clutches while laying on an old bit of carpet at the weekend in the past. When you're comfortable with money or drive a company car you don't even think about this stuff! Do people still use Haynes Manuals or do they just watch YT videos nowadays? How else would you know the tightening sequence and the torque settings for your cylinder bolts?

When you do a search for 'most elegant language' French usually comes up as the top result and I'd have to agree to that, the sound of a well spoken elegant French lady is the epitome of grace to me. The results are all no doubt subjective but Arabic is often one of the top results also, I heard Ghadi Francis on a video talking Arabic and whether it's her accent or the way she delivers her speech - it did sound kind of alluring, assuming she speaks Lebanese Arabic, French has been entwined in that dialect dating back as far as the Crusades. One of the hottest voices in my mind though was that of a well read, articulate and also a bit posh South African woman who happened to smoke and was schizophrenic, not sure what that has to do with anything? Maybe it's a touch of '20th Century Smoke & Glamour Hollywood Allure' and there's nothing to glamourise about psychotic breaks but a beautiful mind and schizophrenia can sometimes go hand in glove. As for English, most regional dialects just don't compare to the aforementioned, take southern dialects such as Bristolian or Cornish "Or-roight my lover" The Wurzels "ooh aah ooh aah", The Midlands "Ay up me duck", Up North - Liverpool "Sound like, have you got a ciggy lad" or Newcastle "Why aye man". Those examples are most likely gross stereotypes but anyone who can audiate those phrases will know what I'm getting at. Maybe it's more a case of erudition, articulatory phonetics and delivery but going back to French & Arabic those languages do have a certain flow to them. #speech #language

There's no shortage of health & dietary advice out there such as "Alcohol is poison" "Eat your veg" "Drink X amount of water a day" but has a few beers when combined with a healthy diet ever hurt anyone? There's an argument to be heard that some beers & stouts are actually good for your gut! Whereas some fruit & veg is high in insoluble fibre and can be harsh on your guts. Water is poison if you force drink it at a radio station contest to win a Nintendo Wii (Jennifer Strange) Maybe it's just a case of finding what works for you? Alcohol probably is poison if you're sat in a city centre shop doorway at 10am with your hand shaking as you take another gulp of your Tennent's Super or White Lightning but there'll be loads of old folks who swear by a drop of whiskey or brandy in your tea when you've got a cold followed by a hot bath and bed to sweat it out, or the old folks who've had a bottle of stout every night.
