Maple syrup update day 6 🍁
Press zap to pay respects
Lesson learned, don’t boil and work. Should’ve pulled this sooner, ended up making some gnarly hard candy and am down a stock pot 🤦🏻♂️
Was a nice 1.5 gallon harvest, it’s okay tho, plenty more sap coming. Anyone who tells you they were always good at something from the beginning is most likely lying. Learning new things means being ready to be bad at them at first :p

Hi nostr
There is a vast, vast chasm between people who have Twitter followings for what they’ve done IRL vs people whose only accomplishment is growing a following on Twitter.
IRL the former are larger than life
The latter don’t quite live up to what their Twitter persona suggests
Important to not confuse the effect and the cause.
Resist the algorithm
Gm nostr will be the decentralized web’s Napster moment
Maple syrup update day 5 🍁🥞
We did it! I think…
Sap harvest was low, didn’t get as warm today as prior days. Sent a finishing boil tonight. Went to 219F but with a relatively small amount had to swirl the syrup to get a reading I believed. Pulled it unfiltered and saw a lot of sentiment. Put a coffee filter in a sieve and filtered which got it really clear, but tore the filter trying to push it along so didn’t end up perfect. Yield was better than expected, ~ 12 oz. Might be a combo of me low balling the initial sap numbers (wasn’t measuring, just estimating) and/or not boiling enough.
Tastes amazing, looks like syrup, little cloudy, pretty good for the first time. Looking forward to collecting a bunch more sap and trying again with a better filter, maybe even a refractometer?

What do you use to filter your syrup??
Maple syrup update day 4 🍁
1.5 gal harvest today! My dad spotted another maple that I hadn’t seen this fall and I tapped it, so will have 3 trees worth of sap tomorrow.
Big enough batch to boil outdoors— got enough to finish to an 8 oz bottle so will try that in the next couple days.

Who’s running the exclusive nostr whale relay 👀
I’m happy to announce that TBD Lightning has hired Block’s second pseudonymous dev, John Cantrell! (We hired the first one too 👀)
John has gotten to know rust, LDK and lightning inside and out over the past year through his work on Sensei, a lightning node implementation. John’s work was supported by a Spiral grant
Whenever I’ve been looking into a new lightning concept (like 0-conf channels), somehow I’ve always found John there, nearly finishing up implementing it in code himself. John has a knack for grokking the new stuff in this space and understanding through building.
After agreeing to come on board, John actually pinged me and told me he was actually just in the middle of writing a library implementing Jesse Posner and ZmnSCPxj’s Swap in Potentiam.
John’s experience building and his propensity to share his work and knowledge around lightning is a huge boon for our team, and I’m ecstatic to have him join what’s turning out to be a dream team.
Excited to share more about our progress soon.
