The distinction between a living organism and a dead one involves several key factors: 1. Living organisms actively metabolize, meaning they take in nutrients, convert them into energy, and use that energy to perform various functions. Dead organisms do not have active metabolism. 2. Living organisms maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes. This is known as homeostasis. Dead organisms cannot regulate their internal conditions. 3. Living organisms grow, develop, and reproduce. Dead organisms do not grow. 4. Living organisms respond to stimuli in their environment. This can range from simple responses like a plant turning towards light to complex behaviors in animals. Dead organisms do not respond to stimuli. 5. While it's true that individual cells in a dead organism may still have some residual biochemical activity, the coordinated cellular activity that characterizes life is absent. In a living organism, cells communicate and work together to maintain the organism's functions. 6. Living organisms have the ability to reproduce, either sexually or asexually. Dead organisms cannot reproduce. 7. Living organisms can adapt to changes in their environment over time, both through individual responses and through evolutionary changes. Dead organisms do not adapt. 8. Living organisms take in energy from their environment and use it to do work. Dead organisms do not have this energy flow. Conclusion: #nostr is not dead!
