This heat wave in Jasper National Park has lead to quite a few large avalanches across the Park (and temperatures in the Jasper Townsite as high as +25 C). This is a great week to stick within the boundaries of a ski resort, or to start training for hiking season!

These next few days are our first stretch of summer-like weather in the Canadian Rockies. This will be a time to avoid any and all avalanche terrain as the snowpack wakes up from a long winters nap. Avalanche Canada currently has a SPAW (Special Public Avalanche Warning) in effect for most areas AB and BC.

Spring is a time of change in the Canadian Rockies. Around the Jasper Townsite it almost feels like summer, though it is still wintery higher up. A low snowpack this year may mean day hiking and backpacking trails will start to dry out earlier than usual.
