Language Transfer is an incredible tool. I’ve tried pretty much every language learning app/program out there and this is up there with the best. View quoted note →

Been mostly lurking on Nostr for the past year or so. But in 2025 I’m committing to getting more active on here with content. And maybe even building a thing or two. Loving all the new tools and things being built around here. Feeling excited about Nostr. LFG.

I generally don’t even like conferences that much, but I’m having serious Nashville fomo at the moment.

Correct. Unlike many here I’m still a fan of Twitter/X. Elon’s purchase of the platform has massively expanded the Overton window and has been a net positive for free speech. But that stance has placed him firmly in the crosshairs of every powerful interest who wants to limit free speech and control the flow of information. You’re seeing it already with the regulatory moves by the EU and other attacks on Elon. It remains to be seen whether X, as a centralized company, can continue to protect free speech even with Elon at its helm. That’s where Nostr comes in. View quoted note →

I’m still not fully comfortable with ecash, and it seems like using a custodial LSP is maybe better considering all the risk tradeoffs. Can anyone point me to something that will explain why that’s wrong? @npub16fhh...n62p perhaps?

Thought I had this morning: Bitcoin is such a powerful technology and has so much potential for good that it gives many people a profound sense of meaning just to be involved in it. I’m a believer in the idea that humans have a “God-shaped hole” inside of them, and in an increasingly secular society, they’ll naturally find alternatives to fill that hole. For some, this happens to be Bitcoin. They treat it like a secular religion. Look deeply and you’ll see parallels everywhere. It’s a great thing that people are so passionate about Bitcoin and that it gives them meaning. But this dynamic also brings out some of the worst human tendencies that rise up with competing belief systems. Ingroup/outgroup dynamics, social punishment for defectors, intolerance of opposing viewpoints…and perhaps most often— purity tests. I’ve been seeing it on Twitter the last few days with Bruce Fenton going after @jack. I think it’s important to remember to have humility. You don’t get to judge who is or isn’t allowed to contribute to Bitcoin, and they don’t owe you any explanations. If you think you can gatekeep Bitcoin in any way, prepare to be humbled.

What are the best resources for following Nostr developments on a weekly/monthly basis? I'm finding it hard to keep up with everything. Is anyone compiling/curating anything good? @fiatjaf @PABLOF7z @npub1kuy0...kdj8 ?

Lately Damus hasn't been usable for me. Is there another iOS mobile client I should try? New relays I need to add? Any insights appreciated!

Primal's trending posts feature is one of the best things shipped in Nostr recently. Also very cool to see RFK Jr. on Nostr. Exciting stuff!

I wrote an article on the @npub19f0y...wtcn newsletter about Substack Notes, Nostr, and other Twitter alternatives. "Substack Notes feels very different from Twitter. And because it’s run by a different company, it is. But that company still holds the same power that Twitter held. Substack’s platform is centralized. They control the algorithm that determines the home feed. They can still censor or shadowban users. Yes, users still own their email lists and can migrate those elsewhere, but the creation of Substack Notes is an attempt to further lock users into the Substack platform specifically. And within Notes, they’re at the mercy of the company. Nostr, on the other hand, takes a fundamentally different approach. It’s a free, open protocol designed to be resistant to censorship. Users aren’t locked into any single platform, app, or service. At the protocol level, they can’t be censored. If a single application or relay bans a user, they can simply migrate elsewhere. If a user doesn’t like the content algorithm of a particular app, they can use another. Users pay one another directly with Bitcoin, so there’s no financial middleman that can censor payments. Because users have full control of their identity via their key pair, they can plug into the network however they’d like." Check it out!

Lately it feels like there's been an explosion of Twitter alternatives. Nostr, BlueSky, Substack Notes, Farcaster, Post, etc. Cool to see the market respond to what is clearly needed. The question remains which platforms will see sustained traction and why. I expect a lot of dispersal, and then for people to eventually re-congregate around a few. I personally think Nostr is the best alternative, but it's interesting to think about how and why other platforms might outcompete it.

I'm looking for more and more people to follow on here who don't primarily talk about Bitcoin or Nostr. I love connecting on those topics, but what I want out of a social app is to explore all of my interests. Feel free to shill me any cool accounts to follow..any topic is fair game!
