Watching Bushcraft videos. Can't help but laugh at them. Why would you need to saw your firewood into neat 18" logs and then baton them with a knife to make kindling? Burn up a lot of calories, and break a good knife. Ötzi the Iceman surely did not do it. How about picking up fallen twigs and sticks for kindling, dry inner bark and leaves for starter, and let the fire burn the logs from the ends? Feed it into the fire as needed? A knife is for cutting, slicing and maybe stabbing in a fight. Use it to shave dry wood for a Feather Stick, or thin shavings for fire starting.

SURVIVAL IS A MINDSET Going through your daily routine you should practice situational awareness. It must become a habit. Scanning your surroundings with eyes, ears, and nose. Look for things and people that are out of place. Be watching for the person or vehicle that you see three times in three places in a short period. Look for camera positions, exits, cover, concealment When out shopping, church, Hiking, etc... Complacency kills. We are in a war zone. Best start acting like it.

FORTIFYING YOUR HOME These are cheap ways to fortify your home against intruders. 1, Replace the shirt screws in your door hinges, strike plate, and locks with 4 to 6 inch deck screws. The short screws will give out with a strong kick. The longer screws will reach deep into the wall studs. This provides warning and time. The door can be re-enforced with steel plates along both the door frame and the area of the door locks. 2, Door barricades. A relatively cheap set of brakes that allow for a 2 X 4 piece of lumber to be be placed across your door. Use 4" screws to secure the brackets into wall studs for added strength. 3, If you have a storm door, lock it as well. The added noise will alert you to an intruder. 4, Paint a white stripe or a white strip vertically on the trees facing your house. Paint the inside of your fence white. This will give you super vision as any intruder will be silhouetted against the white paint even in very dark nights. 5, Place metal cans like soup cans with a few rocks in them along access routes, under or on window sills to alert you to an intruder. 6, Conceal a medium prybar, baseball bat, stout walking stick, at each entry door. A great improvised weapon ready when opening the door. Aim for knees, elbows, head, neck, face. 7, Install peep holes on each entry door. Check them before opening the door every time. 8, Placing 1/4" heavy screen wire over windows inside the home when things go sideways will help slow intruders even more at windows. There is a heavy plastic safety film that can be applied to the glass to prevent entry. Works very well holding the glass together and denying entry. 9, Security cameras are becoming relatively inexpensive these days. If possible place the cameras looking back at your house, at lease on the opposite corners. This covers all four sides with only two cameras. Others should watch entrances, access routes and outbuildings. 10, Firearms. Nothing makes a man or woman as strong as an attacker than a firearm and knowing how to use it. Local laws, personal training and religion convictions should prevailed. I prefer the Mossberg 12 gauge Shockwave loaded with 3" magnum 1oz slugs for home Defense. #00 buckshot is pretty good as well. Aim for the head, throat, pelvic girdle, lower stomach. Plan for home intruders wearing body armor. Buck shot will not spread much inside of home distances. Shoot it like a rifle. Lasers are cool but work both ways. A bright tactal Flashlight would be a better choice. I prefer to stay dark and suprise the badguys. If you keep a fire arm for defense: a, Keep it safe from unauthorized people and children. Do be in the news. b, Keep it loaded and available for your immediate use. Unloaded, licked and separate from ammunition is as useless as a spoon for defense. You will not have the time to load it. c, Training is crucial. 11, Have a plan. A loose plan that can be modified on the fly pending circumstances. These measures will slow or stop a determined intruder, make them reevaluate their life choices.
