I assembled a first-aid kit of home remedies for my adult children to keep in their homes.
Included is a spray bottle of Colloidal Silver. On it I list the benefits and uses.
Amazing!
We reach for our Colloidal Silver often on the farm. Animal has an open wound - spray CS on it. We spray it on our nose and eyes if we have been around sick people. A few squirts in my mouth if I feel a tickle in the back of my throat. So versatile.
Something to look into if you want to develop a more natural medicine cabinet.

I grew up in the 80's. We were told fat was bad. Carbs were good. And for a period of time eggs were bad. Teflon pans were a technological advancement.
Today's breakfast is eggs fried in lard (from our farm raised hogs) in a cast iron skillet.
Keep learning.
Question everything.
Eat real food.

This past year I have been drawn to the many ways agricultural/seasonal living is intertwined with my Catholic faith.
Today marks the beginning of Ember Days - a period of prayer, fasting, and thanksgiving that marks the passage of the seasons.
We are preparing for the feast of Christmas while at the same time marking the winter solstice. A festive season of light while plunged in darkness.
I am thankful for last year's harvest while anticipating next year's garden.
It is a season of stark contrast.
Enjoy your seasons.

Head of cabbage harvested from the garden.
Seeds started indoors in July.
Seedling transplanted outside in August.
Watered when the ground is too dry.
Covered to protect from freeze.
Harvested for dinner tonight.
Outer leaves shared with the cows.
Plant your seeds.
Tend your garden.
Share your abundance.

Winter is a great time to build compost.
Spent part of the morning moving leaves to different parts of the property.
Use leaves to:
Mulch garden beds
Make piles for chickens to scratch and break down
Add to compost piles

I pulled a couple carrots from the garden this morning. This may not look like much, but when most of your garden has been killed by multiple frosts this is gold.
Amazingly fresh. Nutritionally dense. Real food.
I interplant carrot seeds when I plant lettuce. Carrots take longer to grow. By the time my lettuce has been harvested, the carrots are ready to take over.
You have to plant seeds to get a harvest.
Plant your seeds.

This morning members from our small church community gather to assemble over 150 food boxes to be handed out to the needy this weekend.
Katie, had the job of putting a jar of peanut butter in each box.
Katie will turn 101 years old on Christmas Day. She still lives on her own at home.
Lynn, standing in the picture, keeps an eye on Katie, brings her to church, and makes sure she remains active and involved.
Build community.
Love eachother.

Frosty morning.
Brought a large bale of hay out to the cows.
They are out in the elements all winter, but if they have enough hay to eat they will keep themselves warm.
