GM ☕ Back to the fiat mines today. My cover story is that I'm a normie working in the normie world, but they don't know that I'm actually stacking bitcoin and posting on nostr like a lunatic.

Just spent a bit of time crawling through some Twitter threads DMed to me by someone still in thrall to that site. Without fail, every reply chain devolved into case studies in mental illness, hate, fear, and propaganda bots. Nostr is a small community and it's hard to find much content that isn't about Nostr itself or bitcoin, but the vibe here sure is different (and positive.) Maybe that will change as it grows and attracts more people, I sure hope not.

GM ☕ Today begins my annual "infrastructure week", where I review the setup and configuration of every device in my home, office, and lab, audit all MAC addresses seen on their LANs, update/delete/archive software and projects as appropriate, and take the opportunity to make breaking changes that I didn't dare during busier times. Gotta clean out the cruft and stay on top of security...

GM ☕️ It’s been a year since I deleted Twitter, and set up new profiles on Mastodon/Fediverse and now Nostr. It’s really interesting to see who of the people I followed ended up on each, or remained only with Twitter. The Fediverse is where a lot of my academic and professional colleagues ended up, while Nostr is where many of the Bitcoin folks I know are now, and it’s a pretty disjoint set. Also, the cultures and norms are very different between the communities. Hopefully they come together at some point, but network effects are difficult to overcome.
