Democracy is the right idea but needs an adjustment to experience another renaissance and make people feel like they are in a system that truly represents them. Let me explain… As decision-making moves to higher levels, the information gets increasingly abstracted and distorted, as noise is increasingly introduced. Democracy is the right idea, but its version today has degenerated into an ineffective, toxic, and even evil form. Western leaders have taken a “we are all in this together” approach to “save democracy” and look to empower themselves to make decisions at higher and higher levels, which creates a version that is antithetical to the true spirit of democracy. We need to fix the current implementation to save and improve on the ideals of democracy. Let me explain why this form of democracy is flawed… Think of the game of telephone: each person passes on a message, adding their own interpretation. By the end, the message is often unrecognizable. This is how information can get distorted in governance. When decisions are made at higher levels, they're based on information filtered through many layers, each adding subjective influences. The result? An ill informed public and policy makers that create policies that may not reflect ground realities. When you travel, you get a taste of pure, unfiltered information. However, even as a visitor, you only get a limited sense of local realities compared to a resident. Lived experience matters. This is why local decision-making is crucial. Policies made closer to the people ensure that information is more accurate and relevant to those it affects. In the digital age, direct communication is easier than ever. We should leverage this to decentralize policy-making, moving away from large, impersonal federal and corporate-level decisions. Here is where Bitcoin and NOSTR comes in to protect the idea of democracy. It helps address this by empowering individuals over large states, which are often captured by centralized, distorted information. It limits the slide into more centralization and empowers more decision-making at the individual level. Challenges exist, like resource limitations and coordination issues, but introducing more local autonomy is needed as a foundation to continue on the path towards human freedom and flourishing. Let's push for a governance model that values localized decision-making, ensuring policies are grounded in real, lived experiences.
