JUST ONE NIGHT
(Based on a true story)
For years, Cassey spent her free time playing an online game. It wasn't just a game anymore, it became a place where she met different people from different walks of life. Some became friends, while others became her constant teammates.
Among them was Von.
At first, they were just gaming partners. Then they became affinity partners. As the days turned into months, their friendship slowly became something more. They decided to give love a chance, even if they were miles apart.
For four months, they made it work.
They moved from chatting in the game to talking on WhatsApp. They spent hours on video calls every day. They shared meals, laughed over random things, stayed connected even while Von was at work, and ended many nights falling asleep while still on the call.
It wasn't a perfect relationship, but it felt real.
Then little by little, something changed.
The good morning messages weren't as warm anymore. The random calls became rare. The long conversations slowly disappeared.
Cassey noticed, but she kept hoping it was just work, stress, or life getting busy.
One evening, Von told her he was going to a drinking session with his coworkers. They stayed on a video call while he was there. Cassey could see everyone around him, so she didn't think much of it.
Then, without warning...
The video call ended.
She waited for him to call back.
He never did.
Days passed.
Then weeks.
No explanation.
No message.
No call.
The silence hurt more than any argument ever could.
When Cassey finally gathered the courage to call him, she asked if everything was okay. Von answered, but he barely spoke. Every question was met with silence.
Feeling frustrated and hurt, she ended the call.
Not long after, one of their gaming friends accidentally mentioned that something had happened on the night of the drinking session.
Those words stayed in Cassey's mind.
She called Von again.
This time, she wanted the truth.
After a long silence, he finally spoke.
"I'm really sorry. I didn't have the courage to tell you. I never meant for it to happen. I was too drunk."
Cassey held back her tears.
"What happened? I deserve to know."
Von confessed.
That night, he had a one-night stand with Jane, the coworker he had mentioned before, the one who would often bring him food at work. The video call had ended because he left with her.
For a moment, everything became quiet.
Then Cassey softly said,
"So all those promises... they were only words. I trusted you with my heart, and you chose to break it. I guess there's nothing left for us to talk about. You already made the choice that ended us."
She ended the call with tears running down her face.
What hurt the most wasn't just the betrayal.
It was knowing they had already become part of each other's lives. They had met each other's parents and siblings through video calls. Their families knew about their relationship. They had talked about future plans, believing they would someday meet in person.
But sometimes, it only takes one wrong decision to destroy something that took months to build.
Trust is fragile.
Once it's broken, saying "I'm sorry" doesn't always put the pieces back together.
LESSON:
Alcohol doesn't make people cheat, it only removes the excuses. If you choose to drink, let it stay in your stomach, not in your decisions. Because trust takes time to build, but only one mistake to lose. And one careless night can leave someone carrying scars that take a long time to heal.
