bitpunk.fm is a low-fi audiozine that puts the punk back in cypherpunk. I highly recommend checking it out in general and specifically this latest edition that has a segment on radio to include meshtastic and reticulum.
One of the cool things about bitpunk.fm is that there is a limited run physical version on cassette for each edition. Listen to the episode for information on how to acquire it. Also, content for the zine comes from the community. I could go on explaining further but you are better off experiencing it yourself. So turn it on, tune in and opt out.

Reticulum Supported Interface Types and Devices:
Reticulum implements a range of generalised interface types that covers the communications hardware that Reticulum can run over. If your hardware is not supported, it’s relatively simple to implement an interface class. Currently, Reticulum can use the following devices and communication mediums:
⚡️Any Ethernet device
⚡️ 📻 WiFi devices 📡
⚡️ Wired Ethernet devices
⚡️ Fibre-optic transceivers
⚡️ 📻 Data radios with Ethernet ports 📡
⚡️ 📻 LoRa using RNode 📡
⚡️ 📻 Can be installed on many popular LoRa boards 📡
⚡️ 📻 Can be purchased as a ready to use transceiver 📡
⚡️ 📻 Packet Radio TNCs, such as OpenModem 📡
⚡️ 📻 Any packet radio TNC in KISS mode 📡
⚡️ 📻 Ideal for VHF and UHF radio 📡
⚡️ Any device with a serial port
⚡️ The I2P network
⚡️ TCP over IP networks
⚡️ UDP over IP networks
⚡️ Anything you can connect via stdio
⚡️ Reticulum can use external programs and pipes as interfaces. This can be used to easily hack in virtual interfaces.
Or to quickly create interfaces with custom hardware.
For a full list and more details, see the Supported Interfaces chapter.

What is Reticulum? - Reticulum Network Stack 1.1.3 documentation
What is Reticulum?
Reticulum is a cryptography-based networking stack for building both local and wide-area networks with readily available hardware, that can continue to operate under adverse conditions, such as extremely low bandwidth and very high latency.
Reticulum allows you to build wide-area networks with off-the-shelf tools, and offers end-to-end encryption, forward secrecy, autoconfiguring cryptographically backed multi-hop transport, efficient addressing, unforgeable packet acknowledgements and more.
From a users perspective, Reticulum allows the creation of applications that respect and empower the autonomy and sovereignty of communities and individuals. Reticulum enables secure digital communication that cannot be subjected to outside control, manipulation or censorship.
Reticulum enables the construction of both small and potentially planetary-scale networks, without any need for hierarchical or beaureucratic structures to control or manage them, while ensuring individuals and communities full sovereignty over their own network segments.
Reticulum is a complete networking stack, and does not need IP or higher layers, although it is easy to utilise IP (with TCP or UDP) as the underlying carrier for Reticulum. It is therefore trivial to tunnel Reticulum over the Internet or private IP networks. Reticulum is built directly on cryptographic principles, allowing resilience and stable functionality in open and trustless networks.
No kernel modules or drivers are required. Reticulum can run completely in userland, and will run on practically any system that runs Python 3. Reticulum runs well even on small single-board computers like the Pi Zero.

New features
Callsign dropdown mode: RECENT/POPULAR/CUSTOM. New setting - Select your desired mode for connect-to callsigns list.
Application launcher - Set startup application sequence prior to VarAC startup. Ideal for launching Rig control apps, loggers etc. Set wait time for each app and even if you want VarAC to first close an existing app instance.
Historical SNR data - VarAC now saves all SNR data during a QSO so you can see the SNR graph of previous QSOs. This will only apply to new QSOs made with this new version.
Automatic antenna switch upon band switch (for supported rigs with multiple antennas and antenna selector)
Mark VMail as urgent. In EmComm mode - a VMail is marked as urgent by default. This will also reflect through relay notifications that will now show also Urgent relay notifications both on the main screen and on the relay notification center.
VarAC backups - By default VarAC will backup its important files in a "backup" subdirectory or one of your choice. You can disable it or change the retention copies under the settings -> Misc. Also can access backups from Main screen top menu -> Logs -> Open backup directory.
EmComm features - features you can enable only under EmComm mode.
- Disable SNR report sending - save time and power while handling a crisis.
- Disable Caller ID sending- save time and power while handling a crisis (Require to check local regulations).
- Last connection peeking - see previous links of your fellow EmComm network members
- Automatic incoming file approval - always accept incoming files regardless to their size.
Enhancements/Changes
Applying suppress is typing in low SNR also if the other side signal is low.
Inquire - close upon inquiring. Now you can control if it will stay open for additional inquiries.
Adding countdown to large incoming file size alert and keeping it always on top.
Block callsign - directly from the main screen using the right click menu.
Adding Translate button to VMails.
When activating google translate - instruct it to auto-detect the source language
Adding 8m band as an option.
Adding explanation on how "Ask for SNR" in broadcast can also serve as a broadcast receipt confirmation.
Adding additional DXCC country prefixes: TM
On Callsign History - Auto Scroll on QSO table to show the recent QSOs
On Copy SNR chart to data - including also QSO time
Added tooltips on SNR graph - when hovering on a point, a tooltip with its values appear.
Adding to the Rig configuration tester also the activation of Antenna tuner and Antenna selector.
On Callsign history - showing single QSO contents per user selection from the QSO list.
When Auto QSY is rejected as it is out of allowed range, a new tag is sent "<QJO>" to signal the other side of the reason of declining QSY.

Demo of Reticulum over HF
By Zenith on YouTube
“HF radio is a useful tool for bridging local line of sight Reticulum networks across vast distances over a direct point to point connection. Reticulum only requires a 500 bit per second connection, which is easily achievable over HF. The main drawback to using HF is the limited bandwidth available.
Using propogation modes like NVIS can overcome the rapidly changing propogation conditions and are ideal for briding regional networks within the range of 0 - 500 kilometers ( 0 to 300 miles). NVIS can also accomodate higher bandwidths when compared to traditional HF modes of propogation. At the time of making this video I'm currently working on a dedicated software data modem for packet radio designed for Reticulum which I plan to release by the end of this year.”

Few Things Are Cheaper Than This Antenna
By Ryan Cockfield of HACKADAY
“As far as hobbies go, ham radio tends to be on the more expensive side. A dual-band mobile radio can easily run $600, and a high-end HF base station with the capability of more than 100 watts will easily be in the thousands of dollars. But, like most things, there’s an aspect to the hobby that can be incredibly inexpensive and accessible to newcomers. Crystal radios, for example, can be built largely from stuff most of us would have in our parts drawers, CW QRP radios don’t need much more than that, and sometimes even the highest-performing antennas are little more than two lengths of wire.
For this specific antenna, [W3CT] is putting together an inverted-V which is a type of dipole antenna. Rather than each of the dipole’s legs being straight, the center is suspended at some point relatively high above ground with the two ends closer to the earth. Dipoles, including inverted-Vs, are resonant antennas, meaning that they don’t need any tuning between them and the radio so the only thing needed to match the antenna to the feed line is a coax-to-banana adapter. From there it’s as simple as attaching the two measured lengths of wire for the target band and hoisting the center of the antenna up somehow. In [W3CT]’s case he’s using a mast which would break the $8 budget, but a tree or building will do just as well.
The video on the construction of this antenna goes into great detail, so if you haven’t built a dipole yet or you’re just getting started on your ham radio journey, it’s a great place to get started. From there we’d recommend checking out an off-center-fed dipole which lets a dipole operate efficiently on multiple bands instead of just one, and for more general ham radio advice without breaking the bank we’d always recommend the $50 Ham series.”
