I recently changed my default zap from 21 sats to 73 sats. '73' has a meaning in ham radio that is rooted in tradition and history. It's not just a number — it's a time-honored way of saying 'Best Regards.' Originating from early telegraphy, this shorthand has been used by radio operators for over a century to sign off with warmth and goodwill. So, next time you hear '73,' or get zapped 73 sats remember, it's more than a farewell — it's a friendly wish for the best. If you haven’t been zapped 73 sats by me yet, post some radio comment. It will help me find it if you use some radio related hashtags. You might even get zapped for bringing radio content to my attention by replying to it with @HR4BTC aka HamRadio4Bitcoin . #HamRadio #AmateurRadio #73 #radio #morsecode #cw #telegraphy #bestregards #highlyregarded image

DYK: The Solar Cycle (☀️🚴‍♂️) has a huge impact on HF radio propagation. This cycle is looking to be one of best cycles for propagation in decades and we are going to soon be entering the peak of the cycle. If you were on the fence about getting your ham radio license or upgrading your license to do HF, perhaps this will provide you some FOMO to get on it now. Digging Deeper: The solar cycle is an approximately 11-year cycle in which the Sun's magnetic activity fluctuates, causing variations in solar phenomena like sunspots, solar flares, and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). During the solar maximum, the Sun is most active, with a higher number of sunspots and solar flares. In contrast, the solar minimum features fewer sunspots and reduced solar activity. The impact on radio communications, especially in the high-frequency (HF) range (3 to 30 MHz), is significant. During the solar maximum, increased solar activity enhances the ionosphere's ability to reflect HF radio waves, improving long-distance communication. However, solar flares and CMEs can cause sudden ionospheric disturbances, leading to radio blackouts and disruptions in navigation and communication systems. Conversely, during the solar minimum, while there are fewer disruptions, the ionosphere's reduced ionization can limit long-distance HF radio propagation.

⚡️ 🚙 📡 Radio direction finding made very easy for less than $1000 in fiat.📡🚙⚡️ Check this out and think about what is currently possible with low cost civilian radio direction finding. This technology will only get cheaper and more features over time. Definitely check out KrankenRF’s github too. Link in thread. DYK: In ham radio, there is a sub-community or sub-hobby within the hobby interested in rf direction finding. These folks put on “fox hunting” events where teams compete to find a hidden transmitter (aka “the fox” 🦊 ). Even with technology like this, it may not be as easy as you think because of other factors that can come into play that you will learn about as you go further down the radio rabbit hole. 🐇🕳️ #KrackenRF #KrackenSDR #radio #rf #sdr #directionfinding #foxhunt #foxhunting #ham #hamradio #radio #amateurradio #mesh #meshtastic #softwaredefinedradio #releasethekracken #kracken

Ham Radio License Test Preparation: 1. Use HamStudy.org: HamStudy is a free website that provides practice tests for all ham radio licenses. It can help individuals prepare for their exams and find online or in-person test sessions. www.hamstudy.org 2. Check Out W4EEY on YouTube: W4EEY on YouTube offers excellent ham radio tutorials. He has playlists covering all ham radio license levels and occasionally conducts live classes. This resource can be valuable for learning ham radio concepts. Here are the playlists for the various licenses: • Tech Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpziUWPBT3rOvSV6MCCeCaiK0 • General Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpziv2a26B_IoQ1RbXbIqieP2 • Extra Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpzh7NC1WVKwCCmOTULSj1f93 3. Explore ARRL and Local Clubs: The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) website can help individuals find local ham radio clubs. These clubs often have information about local repeaters, club meetings, and ham radio "nets" (radio meetups). It's a good way to connect with other ham radio enthusiasts in your area.
