image Pretty mad today. So here are some reflections and pics to go with it
Takedown of carnivory by Manvir Singh in _The New Yorker_. -There are no controlled studies that validate the health claims by "meatfluencers" like Shawn Baker or Paul Saladino. -Two studies -- on locusts and mice(!) -- suggest that a large portion of carbs is ideal for animals, and what they naturally gravitate towards. - Blue Zone populations in Okinawa, for example eat low-protein diet and live the longest/healthiest of all -- never mind that those zones also have the worth record-keeping from that time. i.e., longevity benefits of the way of life for these populations are probably all bullshit: - Interviewed professors admit that "appetite is a better gauge than calculators" for what's good to eat. - Because Paul Saladino changed his handle and incorporated honey and fresh fruits into his diet, the carnivore-mania must be incorrect; because the Liver King was a steroid fraud, his health advice must be garbage; because Joe Rogen had fruits to his carnivore in 2022 and couldn't stay on it, it's all fake (never mind that he's back on it again in 2023). Credentialist scientists and journalists at elite institutions really are such jokesters.
Grand, beautiful harvest from the land of words and publishing. _Where do I start?!_ What I love the most about buying book is opening the box they're delivered in. It feels like Christmas: the excitement of which books I'll get (even though I very well know what I ordered!), what condition they're in, how they smell and feel like when I'm holding them. I love the excitement of starting a new journey with an author whose pitch or podcast interview had impressed me enough to put their book on my list -- and eventually peaked my interest enough that I'll finally pressed the button. image
