But before I get lost in those details, I want to tell you about the old lawyer’s response to Mike. Surprisingly, he copied the entire email to me. In it, he never answered any of Mike’s questions. What he did, oddly enough, was tell him a story about O.J. Simpson. Here’s the core of that email… #Libertarian #Libertarianism #Lawyer #Exchange #Crypto #Cryptocurrency #SelfReflection image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-13-time-fun/
He looked at me with conviction in his eyes. “So that’s why I’m doing this, Paul. I can’t go back to being a parasite. I won’t. I’d rather go to jail.” I didn’t know what to do, save to tell him that I understood and that I respected his decision, even if it concerned me. #Cryptocurrency #Crypto #Libertarian #ClassicLiberal #Privacy image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-12-second-blow/
Again we sat silently, thinking now about Dora, and how little time she had left. She’d probably be hospitalized within a week or two. Then one of them turned to me and asked, “What are we going to do without Dora?” “You’re going to remember the things she did,” I said. “You’ll learn from them and then do better than she did.” #Philosophy #Community #Division #Healing image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-11-stone-stumbling/
The professor spends pages on lobsters, birds and so on, then he moves on to humans, outlining a Hobbesian (“war of all against all”) view of human life. He evokes evolution and paints status as an inevitable core of our lives… something we should embrace. And so I’ll explain, as briefly as I can, why the professor is wrong. @Jordan Peterson #Libertarian #Debate #Philosophy #Debate image
“But… the seed of our advanced state – whatever it may be – is already in us. As Moses said, we don’t have to send someone into the heavens or into a far country to get it for us and bring it to us. It’s in us already. “And it’s in you – as unfortunately as your bodies may be formed – equally as much as it’s in anyone else.” #Faith #Adversity #Challenges #Philosophy image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-10-truth-sanitarium/
They continued talking, but just a moment later I could see where these “creative maladjustments” were heading: The sanitarium would end up as a kind of umbrella organization for these things. That would put tremendous responsibility upon its scarred residents, and they’ve never had “pretty people” relying on them before. That would be tremendously validating for them but also intermittently terrifying. I see interesting days ahead for these people. #Bitcoin #BTC #Cryptocurrency #Crypto #DarkNet image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-9-maladjustments/
“Mike, this is a job for old men… for very old men and women.” They all looked at me with blank faces. “This is the kind of thing you do when you’re 85 or 90 years old and you don’t give a damn if they come after you. What’s the worst they can do against someone that old? Send them to prison for life?” #Cryptocurrency #Bitcoin #Exchanges #Satoshi image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-8-exchange/
“Do you know how to use these tools?” “No, not really,” she said. “All right then; this is step number one. Nothing else happens until everyone is using #encryption on a daily basis. It’s not hard, but they have to do it. Without encryption, nothing happens.” Johnny turned to Esther and said, “I can teach you.” #CyberSecurity #CypherPunks #Privacy image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-7-the-cloaked-life/

Human evolution will persist through the age of dominating hierarchies, gradually fostering increased creativity, reduced cruelty, and a diminished willingness to justify constraint. However, this evolution will face restraint as new ways of living, crucial for its advancement, will be violently forbidden. Once the dominance of states falls away in the future, those better qualities will flow into human life more rapidly than anticipated. They will have, in fact, been contained, much like pressurized gasses. Finally, though, the containment vessels will crack and open, unleashing the full potential of human development. image

In the end, Euclid and others proved that the inner structure of the universe could be described with mathematics… that the universe itself functioned by mathematics. Some of the Greeks went a bit wild with these ideas, but the truth is that mathematics does underlie the entire physical universe, and that’s worth being excited over. image https://freemansperspective.com/earned-knowledge-l9-p2-2/
What technology produced by the time Europe was filled with agriculture – what it wrought for us – was a solid and comfortable lifestyle. By that time, having enough to eat wasn’t too much of an obstacle: we knew how to grow and process plenty of it. Bad weather could still make problems, but long distance trading eliminated a lot of shortages, and nearly everyone knew how to fish and hunt quite well. We also knew how to cooperate. And we had time enough to look after our inner needs. image https://freemansperspective.com/earned-knowledge-l9-p2/
There was an old joke that highlighted the difference between technology and rulership: “Who do you miss more when he goes on vacation, the secretary of state or your garbage man?” The answer, obviously, is the garbage man; his work affects you immediately and directly. The secretary of state (a political official) does nothing that directly improves your life. image https://freemansperspective.com/earned-knowledge-l9-p1/
This time I saw just a little bit of light in Dora’s face, and just as fast I told myself that I could not – no matter what – allow myself to subvert that tiny sprout of happiness. “Will you tell us how to do this?” she asked. “I will, Dora, but what I’m really going to do is to teach you how to learn about all this stuff. In fairly short order, you guys will know more than I do.” image https://freemansperspective.com/rosc-6-rise-scarred-people/
