If I post a message on nostr, is the only way to guarantee it doesn't get deleted is to run my own relay and store all my messages on my relay?

One problem podcasting has, and the Podcast Index is no different, is for it to be widely searchable, a directory is needed. That's what the Podcast Index is. They upload the database every Saturday for anyone that wants to use it instead of relying on the Index, but you'll always be 1-7 days behind the Index. The reality is though, most PC2.0 apps rely on getting feed info from the Index. One thing nostr may be good for is having several copies of the Index available so if one server goes down, the others are available as a back up. I don't know enough about nostr to say how that would work or if it would, but if any of you nostriches are up to the challenge, having the Index across several relays would be huge. Here's the latest upload of the database. https://public.podcastindex.org/podcastindex_feeds.db.tgz

If I'm on Damus and you're on Snort, and I send a message, does it get stored on both Damus and Snort, or does it get stored on Damus, and when you get on Snort, Damus fetches the message and sends it to Snort. Once Snort gets it, does it store it as well?

When I send a message on nostr, where is that message stored so someone is able to see it a few days later?

I wonder if nostriches and podcasters are one people separated by a common language. What I mean by that is I hear stuff like RSS is okay, but nostr is better because it's decentralized. I've always seen podcasting (which is RSS) as decentralized, so I'm left wondering what does someone who says something like that mean by decentralized?

Saw @Murmur 's profile. Stealing the first line. Loved it. "Strong opinions loosely held"

I’m not bashing on choosing a hosting company for your podcast or music. In the About for my app that walks you through the benefits of hosting your own, I acknowledge it’s not for everyone and even provide links to my “competition”. I’m not competing with anyone. My stuff is truly v4v you are free to remove me from the split ( but I will call you a douchebag ). I don’t care who you use, I just want you to know you have options so you can make the choice that’s best for you.

Man, all of this Alby hate is so weird to me. Nobody wants to run their own node, because it's apparently too hard. So Alby runs one for two years, gives away wallets for free, then builds all of these tools FOR FREE that simplify running your own node. Then they say they're not going to run nodes anymore, but here's all these free tools you can use to do it yourself, and everyone shits on them and calls them rug pullers for not giving away even more of their time, talent, and treasure. How much code have you contributed to them? How many sats have any of you people bitching about them moving away from holding your keys ever given them? They provided you two years of value, how much have you provided back? v4v is a voluntary exchange, and either party can choose to change the value they provide at any time. Nobody owes you anything, least of all Alby who have been nothing but generous to all of us.

Maybe I'm jaded. I've been around long enough to have been my own top 8 on MySpace. I had a Facebook back when Mark was using it so he could get laid and when Twitter was just to share short messages with friends. So I've heard the story of the scrappy young team of developers that are going to change the world with their new ideas. And then the investors come in, and the new users, and the money, and somehow this thing morphs into another behemoth that controls far too much. Meet the new boss, same as the old. So, I'm a bit hesitant to trust a new platform that promises to unlock the potential of human creativity by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it; revolutionizing music listening forever and moving into podcasting to bring innovation and a new generation of listeners to the medium.

Did you know you can start your own record label? @boo-bury did with ThunderRoad Media. Know how to host files and build a feed? You can do it for the bands you love. They can focus on their music, you can manage their feed. It’s another form of v4v, where you’re trading your unique skill sets to create something greater than the sum of it’s parts.
