Big thanks to Stephan Livera for sharing his wisdom on fostering #Bitcoin adoption, #liberty, why there aren't more Libertarians in BTC, Bitcoin as a revolution, the free cities movement and lots more. Great chat!
I've never been more bullish on Bitcoin and the wonderful things it can do for the world.
News just in... Janet Yellen states, 'insufflation of tobacco smoke into a patient’s rectum by enema boosts economic growth.'
Not too long now to Bitcoin Indonesia 2023 (October 26-27) Great line up including Jack Dorsey, Stephan Livera, Alex Gladstein, Samson Mow to name a few. Hands up if you're going 🤚🤚🤚
Breedlove on 🔥in this chat. This is perhaps the best description of money I've heard. Thanks RB
It's not long ago that Thailand was 100% cash. I don't like where this is heading. image
What are people's alternative ways to say orange-pilling? I struggle to use this phrase. Feels weird, sounds pretentious to me. Maybe I'm the strange one... Hmm...
The Perils of ‘The Algo’ Written by M (Bitcoin Powerhouse Podcast) I highly recommend Guy Swan's latest essay called 'Evils of the algorithm' (link below) The 'A' word is now tossed about in polite conversation, its meaning blurred in commonplace misunderstanding. Picture the scene - two friends in a downtown bar after work. ---"I'm just so tired of Elon’s algorithm fucking with my head man.” ---“I hear you. I used to feel free of the ‘algo’ but now… Jeeze… It’s got us all by the balls.” Have you overheard people talking about ‘The algos’ in a bar lately? Yes, me too. When did this happen? I wasn’t informed of this intellectual shift in our species evolution. Did I miss a Twitter Space when this was announced? Suddenly, Dave and Gordon from HR are discussing the intricacies of sequential computational techniques over their weekly ‘couple a cold ones’. How can this be? What could be going on is that more people are realizing they’ve been duped. Duped in what way, I hear you ask? For the past decade or more most of us have been part of a large-scale, algorithmically generated psychology experiment. This has been overseen by corporations financially incentivized to keep us scrolling like obedient automaton. And how do our billionaire overlords make this happen? Easy… By consulting psychologists about what makes us focus and fine-tuning social media algorithms to maximize addiction. Unfortunately, what engages us the most is outrage, violence, gossip etc. so this is what we get. And shitloads of it! Imagine telling someone twenty years ago that in 2023 many would spend their free time watching riots on the streets, being freaked out by death selfies and giggling at a cat slipping on a kitchen floor. This is the reality we find ourselves in. A reality where watching a teenager punch a McDonald’s employee is deemed entertaining. Corporations are making a fucking fortune by tapping into the ancient parts of our brains by simulating our fear and pleasure sensors. Who could have guessed that in the midst of the fastest and most fascinating technological revolution our species has ever witnessed, many would rather watch a Korean women eat noodles for 60 mins rather than read spirit-lifting and soul-cleansing literature? Weird, isn’t it? All the information of the ages available to us, and for the majority it’s pushed to the wayside, and in its place mindless bullshit takes centerstage. Think about that for a moment. Something is not quite right here. Are ‘The algorithms’ the root causing a decline in our civilization’s ability to be civil to each other? Guy Swan has a refreshing take on this. He points out in his essay, 'Evils of the algorithm' the problem isn't the algorithm pe se that's the issue. The problem is the centralized nature of platforms like Twitter etc. which are run by megalomaniacs who enjoy nothing more than getting high of their own Algo supply. This high comes in the form of billions of dollars of wealth extracted via a type of nefarious algorithmic necromancy - dark Sorcery for the 21st century - if you like. Imagine Elon and Zuc writhing in front of a black alter, faces contorting, eyes rolling, muttering contemporary iterations of Aleister Crowley aphorisms: “There is no grace on the net: there is no guilt in what we do: Our centralized algorithms are the Law: DO WHAT THOU WILT!” Guy points out though that algorithms are just ways to organize information and are not inherently evil. The dark side of the psychological fuckery lies at the feet of our aforementioned tyrants Elon, Zuc et al. who have centralized and monopolized the vile use cases for algos namely addiction, hatred etc. Thus, we have been tricked into thinking algorithms are bad when in actual fact, the problem is how they are abused. Guy then goes onto talk about Nostr, and how it could be used to offer the user bespoke style algos, giving people optionality when using decentralized clients. I think this is a cool idea. Imagine zapping Sats to get the latest feed base on defined personal preferences. Think about it: a feed focusing on late Victorian literature in the morning and then another in the afternoon revealing the beauty of Tang Dynasty painting. Bring on the bliss! Would having the freedom to curate your own social media experience on Nostr based on personal choice make for better experience and perhaps a better world? Of course, it would. Big shout out to Guy Swan for his eye-opening essay 'Evils of the algorithm' which has changed my ideas of ‘The Algorithm’ and its potential for good in the future. Interesting chat with Jimmy Kostro about his charity work with the hill tribes in northern Thailand, and how BTC mining plays into their future. Cheers Jimmy! Thailand BTC community 🔥
Some say 'everything is good for Bitcoin.' Do you think an institution like Blackrock, headed by ESG shill like Larry Fink, getting into the space is a net positive in the long run?
