When you pitch a tent next to a view like that, the job is stupidly simple: crawl out at 6 AM, take the shot, crawl back in. The real problem is trying to fall asleep again after a sunrise like that hits you in the face. image

Do I question my photography skills? Yeah, all the time. The web’s packed with world-class photographers who live and breathe this craft daily. Me? I’m shooting on a decade-old camera and manage to get out maybe two or three times a month. While others have shot millions of frames, I’ve barely cracked fifty thousand. When I compare my work to theirs, mine often looks flat and underwhelming. Do I care, though? Not really. Photography for me is meditative - a way to connect with nature and capture a moment that’ll never repeat itself. You can’t step into the same river twice; it’s not the same river, and you’re not the same man. Landscape photography works the same way. I remember every shoot, every frame I decided to keep - the weather, the mood, the struggle to get it right. And I remember the feeling when I first see a print come to life - the quiet sense of accomplishment. Better photographers might get the spotlight, but no one can take away the moment you capture something real. I called this one Behind These Bars to remind myself that the only limits on my creativity are the ones I build. Don’t lock yourself in your own cage and then blame the world for it. image

GM. This one’s from 2017, one of my earliest works. I called it “Still in the Game” because back then most of my shots didn’t come out how I wanted, and I was afraid I’d never get good. Looking at it now, it’s full of mistakes - over-edited, edges too dark, middle too bright, colors way off - and I foolishly deleted the RAW file, so it’s locked like this forever. But the composition still holds. I went back to the same spot recently with more experience, a better camera, better editing skills, and perfect light, and I still couldn’t recapture it. That’s the strange thing about photography: sometimes you can come up with a better frame as a novice than you can craft as a pro, and you’ll never make the exact same image twice. If you’re looking for a hobby, landscape photography is one that often delivers even in failure. image

GM. This is one of my favourite spots for landscape #photography. The Shiroka polyana reservoir. During the late summer and early fall you get these excellent foggy conditions in the morning. Too bad this year the water has been almost completely dried up. And not due to lack of rain. It’s just authorities pumping water out to produce “green” electricity. image
