What you see here is a fascinating ecological interaction known as lachryphagy, where butterflies drink the tears of a turtle to obtain essential minerals like sodium, which are scarce in their diet, particularly in the Amazon rainforest. This behavior is mutually beneficial; the butterflies gain nutrients, and the turtle may receive a cleaning of its tear ducts. 👉 And this is why humans are unique. We can recognize a symbiotic phenomenon like this and appreciate its beauty. #nature

That's a Piebald Moose, a rare genetic variant with irregular white patches due to a lack of pigmentation. It was photographed in Norway’s Vesterålen region, where moose populations thrive, with an estimated 120,000 individuals nationally, per the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), highlighting its rarity with only sporadic sightings recorded. #wildlife #nature

Over 10,400 species are now critically endangered, with more than 1,500 left with fewer than 50 adults each. Most face extinction from habitat loss, pollution, invasive species and overfishing - especially on islands, in the Caribbean, Madagascar, Asia, and Africa. Plants make up the biggest share. Urgent action and funding can save them, and Indigenous/local knowledge is crucial. We have the tools to make a difference, but time is running out. #EndangeredSpecies

Spotted in DRC’s Kabobo Wildlife Reserve: the incredibly rare Foa’s red colobus monkey, filmed here for the very first time. Once widespread, these Endangered primates have vanished from most of their former range due to hunting—Kabobo may be their last refuge. Thanks to grassroots conservation by ICCN, WCS, partners, and the local community, these unique forest monkeys are thriving in their remaining habitat. #WildlifeConservation

Did you know? The black-backed jackal is one of Africa’s most adaptable predators - so ancient that it’s barely changed since the Pleistocene! Found all over sub-Saharan Africa, these fascinating animals often form lifelong monogamous pairs. | 🎥 Dan Palmer #Wildlife #Nature
