2024-09-06 Friday night I just put 6 children to school, through my work. And this is just the beginning. Many things running through my mind. Some I cannot mention. The idea just sunk in. 6 kids. On twitter, elon and some of the other bitcoiners keep saying have lots of children. I think in their corner of the galaxy, good education is free. Here, we have to pay for it. Otherwise, the kids would be stuffed in classrooms in a dysfunctional government run system. Education - good education, is the only ticket for the kids getting out of a dysfunctional country. Gotta keep grinding.

Ubuntu on Windows WSL or Ubuntu on Windows vBox? First one seems harder to setup. I wonder if there are performance differences.

Ignorantia juris non excusat - Ignorance of the law excuses no one.

Taal volcano emits voluminous toxic gas, ‘vog’ reappears Taal Volcano in Batangas province emitted more sulfur dioxide (SO2) on Saturday, August 31, causing the reappearance of volcanic smog or “vog.” The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported in its latest bulletin issued on Sunday morning, September 1, that the volcano released a “voluminous emission” of 9,645 metric tons (MT) of SO2 from the volcano’s main crater in the past 24 hours. The plumes rose to 2,400 meters above Taal Volcano Island, the volcano’s crater landmass, locally known as “Pulo,” that sits within Taal Lake, before drifting northwest. The latest emission was a huge increase from the recorded 2,921 MT from August 26 to 28 and 4,389 MT logged on August 29 to 30. Taal has emitted an average of 7,777 tons/day of SO2 for the year and has been continuously degassing voluminous concentrations since 2021. Phivolcs again noted an “upwelling of hot volcanic fluids” in the main crater lake. No earthquake was recorded during this latest monitoring period. State volcanologists also observed the renewed presence of “vog” during this time after it disappeared on August 21. The vog returned on August 26 but disappeared again the next day. Vog is composed of SO2 gas. It can irritate the eyes, nose and throat. People with respiratory conditions and pregnant women are at greater risk.

2024-09-02 Personal Log - Extremely rainy weather today. 83% humidity. 26.9 C. Windows 11 says "Flood Warning". There's no flood here, but lots of water flowing down. - Feeling minor bouts of depression, but I'm a robot. T1000 model. - Slightly overwhelmed with all that I have to learn. - Waiting... for something to happen can be quite emotionally taxing. - Big kids had to go online because of #EntengPH. We're at letter 'E' in the alphabet of Typhoons. - Little kids still sleeping at 7:00 AM. Wife is too. - Recalled asking my wife, two days ago, "What was your dream business? She said, "Something like a botique. An apparel outlet." I then proceeded to ask her in my usual Socratic method. "If you can put up one right now, would you?" She said, "Yes." Follow up with, "But how can you put up one, if you don't have capital?" No response. This is how the conversation should have ended: I would have followed up with, "Mom is already in the sewing business, you can scale up by selling online. Maybe in Lazada. Buy from her, or order from her, pay her, then we sell it online." But the way that the conversation ended was with the toddler (2 years) crying. - Ending note. I miss the times when blogging was not "vlogging". It was writing. Everyone was just being 100% honest about their thoughts, dreams, opinions. Today is not the day for that. Nowadays, even the forces of evil - like cult leaders in the Philippines use social media. Have to be careful.

Prompts 2024-08-31 Replicators, Star Trek and Human Nature The idea of a post-scarcity society like the one depicted in Star Trek challenges many assumptions about human nature, especially our tendencies toward competition, greed, and self-interest. Achieving such a society hinges on several key factors that would fundamentally alter how humans interact with resources and each other: Abundance of Resources: The concept of a post-scarcity society assumes that technology has advanced to the point where resources are virtually unlimited. In Star Trek, replicators can create food, clothing, and other necessities instantly, eliminating the struggle for basic survival. This abundance would remove many of the incentives for greed and competition. Cultural Evolution: In the Star Trek universe, humanity has undergone a significant cultural evolution. The traumatic experiences of World War III, the discovery of alien life, and the subsequent unification of Earth under a single government have led to a shift in values. People prioritize exploration, self-improvement, and the common good over personal gain. Education and Enlightenment: The Federation's citizens are highly educated, with a strong emphasis on ethics, science, and cultural exchange. This education fosters a mindset of cooperation and a desire to contribute to society in meaningful ways. Technological Control: Advanced technology also plays a role in mitigating destructive aspects of human nature. For example, the ability to fulfill any material need reduces the temptation for crime or corruption driven by scarcity. Societal Structures: The Federation’s political and social structures are designed to promote democracy, equality, and justice. This framework supports a society where personal freedoms are respected, and the collective good is prioritized. However, critics argue that the vision presented in Star Trek is idealistic and overlooks inherent human traits like ambition, power-seeking, and the desire for individuality. In the real world, achieving such a society would require not only technological advancements but also a profound change in human behavior, values, and governance. Whether such a transformation is possible remains a subject of debate. In essence, Star Trek presents a hopeful vision of what humanity could become if it overcame its baser instincts and embraced the potential of technology and cooperation. While it's a compelling narrative, whether it could be realized in reality is uncertain and highly speculative

Prompts 2024-08-31 Star Trek Form of Government The United Federation of Planets in Star Trek is often described as a post-scarcity society rather than a communist one, though it does share some characteristics with communism, particularly in its economic model. In the Federation, money is largely obsolete, and resources are abundant due to advanced technology like replicators, which can create virtually anything on demand. This abundance means that the basic needs of all citizens—food, shelter, healthcare, education—are provided for without the need for traditional economic transactions. This allows people to pursue careers and interests based on personal fulfillment rather than necessity or profit. While these aspects might resemble communism—especially the idea of a classless society where resources are distributed according to need—the Federation doesn't have a centralized state controlling all aspects of life, nor does it suppress individual freedoms. Instead, it emphasizes individual rights, democracy, and the rule of law, which aligns more with liberal democratic ideals. So, while the Federation's economy might seem "communist" in the sense of abolishing money and class distinctions, its political and social structures are more akin to a democratic republic, with a strong focus on individual freedoms and democratic governance.
