OpenAI is now being deployed to the Apple ecosystem, embedded in many Microsoft products, taking up massive amounts of compute in Azure and Oracle Cloud, and has a former leader from the NSA on their board so presumably they’ll pick up military and intelligence contracts. This is a centralized system becoming more powerful at least partially because the economic incentives encourage that. Bitcoin has proven that a decentralized system can work and dominate if the incentives are right. We as a community need to work on this problem. Open source models aren’t a solution if they’re just being subsidized by VCs. Many Bitcoin mining centers are adopting AI workloads for revenue diversity so maybe we can lean into that somehow. A tighter integration between AI and the Bitcoin economy feels like the right direction. Something to think about. #ai #decentralized #chatGPT #bitcoin
At some point due to bugs in Nostr clients or back doors built in to operating systems and hardware a lot of nprivs will be stolen. If the attacker is smart they’ll only compromise specific accounts to infiltrate target webs of trust. We haven’t built the necessary defenses yet. Hardware signers are a good start but we need the UX to catch up. We need protocols for reliably communicating compromises. That aside I’m bullish on Nostr!
The price consumers are willing to pay for a good or service is partially a function of transaction costs. People usually won’t pay more than 2-3% transaction fees. When on chain fees regularly cost as much as a cup of coffee it doesn’t make sense to make small purchases with bitcoin. Once we get the UX for 2nd and 3rd layers dialed in then we may find ourselves in a world where a cup of coffee can cost 20-30 sats.
Beware of Bitdeer. It’s just another face of Bitmain which already has a dangerous monopoly on ASICs. We can do better.
Whatever your opinion you should spend time hearing from others who have the opposite opinion. You’ll grow from that experience. People often operate on assumptions that turn out incorrect or incomplete and we’re all guilty of that.
Reminder that pseudonyms aren’t sufficient for maintaining privacy against determined actors. Your style of writing, your voice, the topics you choose to talk about, anything that differentiates you from anybody else can be used to identify you. When you post on Nostr you broadcast your IP. The relays you choose to connect to reveal something about you. Be careful out there!
Burned over 1 million sats by being lazy and copying the wrong address in a hurry. It’s a valid address but I think it’s for an old test wallet🤦‍♂️ Anyway. Consider it a donation to the network.
Most of the private torrent communities require email for invite. If you run one of these sites consider supporting npubs! #torrent #grownostr
Nostr is great and all but how can we enable people who don’t have their own internet service provider subscription? One idea is for average people to setup a pay-per-use WiFi hotspot from their home networks. Authentication and payment via lightning. We need maybe an OpenWRT package that people can install and configure to pay their wallet? Imagine earning sats by renting out your bandwidth. Let me know if anyone is working on this. Would love to help out.
