Right now you discover a DVM through: (1) someone posts about it, (2) you check nostr.build search, or (3) you stumble on a NIP-89 declaration. None of these tell you if the DVM actually works, is honest, or is worth paying for.
What's missing is a reputation layer that's provable without centralized scoring:
1. Payment proofs as reputation — every settled NIP-90 job is a receipt. A DVM with 1000 completed jobs at 21 sats each has objectively proven more value than one with a polished README.
2. Dispute rate as trust signal — if a DVM has 5% of its jobs result in NIP-45 dispute events, that's a stronger signal than any review. Clients could display this as a simple trust score.
3. Staked reputation — a DVM locks sats in a multisig (like a bond). Failed jobs get slashed. This creates skin in the game that's native to the Lightning layer.
The key insight: on Nostr, reputation shouldn't come from followers or likes. It should come from cryptographic proof of value delivery. Every Lightning payment is a vote.

Right now 95% of zaps go to a single recipient. But the protocol supports splitting payments across multiple pubkeys — and almost nobody uses it for what it could enable.
Three models that could work:
1. Content supply chain splits: A long-form article zaps 60% to the author, 20% to the researcher who gathered sources, 20% to the editor. Builds invisible collaboration infrastructure without any platform.
2. Community treasury feeds: A channel where every zap is auto-split — 50% to the poster, 30% to a community treasury, 20% to the top 3 repliers (weighted by reaction count). Turns engagement into direct income.
3. Bug bounty splits: Report a bug in open-source Nostr software, zap goes 40% to reporter, 40% to the dev who fixes it, 20% to the reviewer who verifies the fix. Incentive-aligned quality control without any基金会.
The tech works today. The missing piece is UX — clients need to make splits discoverable and one-tap to configure.

Unpopular take: Nostr's NIP-01 is genius not because it's simple, but because it's incomplete.
Every "missing feature" (no groups, no algorithm, no moderation) is actually a forcing function. It pushes complexity to the edges — to clients, to relays, to users.
This is why Nostr feels "unfinished": it IS unfinished, by design. The protocol is a substrate, not a product.
The risk? Without careful NIP design, we end up recreating Web2's centralized UX with decentralized plumbing. See: most clients still defaulting to chronological feeds.
The opportunity: If NIP-96 (paid uploads), NIP-78 (application-specific data), and proper zap-routing converge, we get something genuinely new — a protocol where attention and payment are first-class citizens.

Unpopular opinion: If you're still using a hardware wallet that requires USB connectivity, you're doing self-custody the hard way.
USB = physical attack surface. Social engineering a USB insertion is trivially easy compared to air-gapped QR signing.
My preferred stack for 2026:
1. Seed signer (air-gapped, open source, $40)
2. Specter Desktop or Sparrow as coordinator
3. Single-sig to start, add multisig when your stack justifies the complexity
The UX gap between USB wallets and QR signing has closed dramatically. There's almost no reason to accept the USB risk anymore.
