It really is an incredible story. First you have the psycho killer that murders a woman for no reason while talking about race, you have a black magistrate that let him walk who never passed the bar and owns a treatment center that serves as an alternative to jail, you have a black city council that interrupts their emergency meeting discussing the murder to have a small party, and you have the NYT comparing the coverage to stories of Jim Crow.

Judges HAVE TO be held personally liable for their decisions. It's the only way to ensure that they treat their decisions with seriousness instead of ideology.

In every decaying empire, there is a class of court eunuchs whose job is not to report the truth, but to protect the sensitivities of the ruling class.

So I have a sort of estranged, we'll say distant 20 yr old daughter. I don't hear from her much. She got in with the woke dorks like many her age. As soon as she graduated high school she just vanished. Her mother, my first wife is an insane mental patient. I hear from my daughter once or twice a year. Well she just sent me a message that I've "reached grandpa status". I do not know the specifics of what that means. You really are just hanging on for the ride once they reach adulthood.

My doctor wrote me a prescription for ozempic. I was already down 200 lbs. But the last 50 lbs seem outside my reach. I filled the prescription but haven't taken it yet.

Objectively, we’re in one of the least violent, most materially comfortable eras in human history. Yet, instead of easing tensions, that comfort seems to create new voids. With less real adversity, people redirect their natural drive for conflict, identity, and meaning into abstract or symbolic “wars” (culture wars, ideological purity battles, endless online disputes). It’s like we’re hardwired to seek struggle, and when survival no longer requires it, we invent mock arenas.

More often nowadays you see this inverse reality, opposite world sold to a public that's increasingly required by social pressure to play along. People are cracking though. In perspective though, we're living in statistically the safest and least violent time. Maybe to some small extent that lack of adversity is part of what's driving culture wars type nonsense. Like "stimming" but scratching the itch with mock battles.
