“What we call existence, life, all those things, is a pulsation which involves a constant uncertainty. It always involves the second philosophical question, are we going to make it? And there are people, you see, like philosophers and sages and whatnot, who say yes. Don’t be afraid. You’re going to make it. But it’s always going to feel as if you won’t. So, but that’s the fun, you see.” — Alan Watts, Out Of The Trap image

Few realize that in “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” by The Band, “Dixie” traces to Louisiana $10 notes issued by the Citizens’ Bank of Louisiana in New Orleans (“Dix” being French for “ten”). The South’s currency became worthless after the Civil War, beginning the centralization trend that led to the Federal Reserve a few decades later. Thus the song is a eulogy to the free banking era / a Bitcoin song.

“At the end of the drama, because all things have to have an end that have a beginning, the curtain goes down and the actors retire to the green room. And there, the villain and the hero cease to be villain and hero, and they’re just the actor. And then they come out in front of the curtain, and they stand in a row, and the audience applauds the villain along with the hero. The villain for having been a good villain, the hero for having been a great hero. The play is over. And everybody heaves a sigh of relief. Well, that was a great show, wasn’t it?” — Alan Watts, Ways of Liberation image

In elementary school, my whole class acted in a theatrical performance. Many of the “cool kids” would purposely mumble through their lines, do the bare minimum, and not get into their roles at all. They did this to seem “cool” and not embarrass themselves. The thing is, from the audience’s perspective, it just comes off as lame. What is actually cool is really getting into character, allowing the lines to flow through you, and bringing the play to life through your total disregard for what others may think of you. This applies to all of life. View quoted note →

This is why being a hater, and calling everything cringe or autistic, isn’t as cool as it seems. To be fascinating, be fascinated. View quoted note →
