Finally got around to finishing The Unbearable Lightness of Being. It’s very ponderable, but, man, I’m gonna go give my doggos a hug #books image

Weekly #writing #wip update, about 2400 words added to the current project. Missed a couple of weeks of novel writing prior to that because my masters was kicking my arse, as per usual. (I can’t explain to myself why I persist studying maths when it is so very hard and there’s so many other things I could be doing and so many other people that seem to *get it* in about the third of the time it takes me. My inner intellectual masochist, I hate them this month.) Today, I’m doing feedback on academic journal submissions for folk, and I know how to review study designs, but not the writing itself. I imagine clarity and inciting interest is the goal, that I can talk about at least. It amuses me I’ve ended up with a creative critique group and an academic one, but the creative one is a lot more formal and structured.

To be fair, I do put some Frankensteinian coconut almond blend in my home coffee because it’s super low carb and I was cultivating my macros

These maths subjects always make it feel like if they just give you the equation and maybe a proof you should be able to comprehend the concept. Do other people’s brain’s work like that? I need slowly worked, real world examples. Luckily there’s so many other avenues to learn information, living as we do, in the future. (I really enjoyed talking to the Bing AI this semester. It was frequently wrong, but it reminds me of arguing with my buddies in undergrad, you learn so much just having to prove you’re right :D) ((Please remind me to donate again to Khan Academy next pay)) (((Why are textbooks so unhelpful?))))

Yay, submitted my probability assignment! It was hard. The dogs were loud. I got weirdly into markov chains.

Posting the weekly #writing #wip update a day early because tomorrow for critique group I’m making buttered rum and will probably die. This week 2250 words added to the current manuscript. Had a bit of a breakthrough on the outline for the next book and if anyone out there is an actuary can I interview you? In #books, I finished The End of the Affair. Greene was a good writer but he had a mean streak. Still thinking about Wolf Hall every day, that book really got its hooks into me! image

Does anyone here know enough #latin and/or English grammar to help turn a cheesy quote into a question. “‘Etiam sanato vulnere cicatrix manet’?” Or, if the character in a book was offering it up in an English conversation, like is this the quote you were looking for? Can I cheat and not re-write it in the Latin question form with that punctuation. Please say yes, I only know enough latin to read Rx 😭

Weekly #writing #wip update: 2127 words added to the current manuscript for a total of 61,934. Still no kissing. I finished Wolf Hall and it’s one of my favourite #books ever, even tho it’s hard for me to pinpoint why. In the hands of a lesser writer everything would annoy me. So, being obsessive, I discovered Mantel recommended a writing book by Dorothea Brande from the 1930’s and to do all the exercises, so I’m going to do that for a while. Hope we all benefit from good advice this week.

Anyway, this move is a couple of years off, I was just fantasizing about the cute apartment we would rent in Elwood

One of the many reasons the housing shortage sucks, not discounting the poverty and homelessness, is you lose mobility in your workforce. Neither white- or blue- collar can move to where they are most needed, so they’re stuck doing sub-optimal jobs.

If there’s affordable houses to rent within 90 minutes walk of Parkville/CBD I would also take that, but pfft, affordable? In this country?
