The fallacy that many altcoin holders make is thinking that faster speeds and more privacy on base layer will automatically mean that everyone in the global Bitcoin Network will shift to the one out of millions alternate cryptos. They fail to realize that the same critiques could be applied to the current financial system, which 99.99% of people are fine with, and the only reasons the .01% of people move to Bitcoin is because of needing to. Hardly anyone complains that transferring money from one bank to another takes an entire business day for it to show up on the screen. So how bad is 10 minutes? No one questions whether Zelle is final settlement or done on layer 1 — It just works. So how bad is Lightning? And now we have Fediment and Cashu —which are able to give speed AND privacy. Fediment at the moment is designed so brilliantly that its close to the same level of security of self custody, and last I heard I think I heard a hint given that Cashu is doing something to completely eliminate the possibility of rugging with certain mints on its protocol. These scaling layers combined with the compounding network effect of Bitcoin make it significantly unlikely that Bitcoiners will just abandon the network because of another crytpo that claims to be better. Just saying.

I do think the constant dumping of BTC’s price has A LOT to do with uncertainty of the protocol’s direction, given contentions around Core V 30. I find myself even holding back on recommending buying Bitcoin to friends because it’s starting to look like Bitcoin was not as neutral as I thought. I know it actually still is, given its design, but the influence of Crypto VCs can’t go unnoticed.
