Technically: This is a rational, incremental evolution, not a radical rewrite. It aligns relay policy with real-world use and miner behavior, reducing unintended side effects (like UTXO bloat) without changing consensus rules. Philosophically: Bitcoin remains Bitcoin. The protocol’s core values - immutability, decentralization, and censorship resistance - are untouched. No one is forced to adopt data inscription use cases. Socially: The Knots backlash is ideological more than technical. It’s being framed as an existential threat to Bitcoin’s purity, but in reality, it’s a treatable variance within a diverse, opt-in node ecosystem.
